Agree. But sometimes the down votes do seem to suggest the pref and selection seem "suspicious".

It's sadly just that people love to judge others. They want to seem superior because inside they know they they feel inferior. It makes them feel better to be mean. They are just showing their lack of class so don't worry about it.

When it gets to pref round, most PNMs don't choose solely based off the rank of each house. For me personally, I cared a lot about ranks and reputations for the first round because I didn't have enough other information to help me make decisions on each house, but by the time I got to pref, there was one house that really stood out to me, so I obviously ranked it first. It wasn't the highest ranked house I prefed at, but at that point I genuinely felt like I could see myself being in that chapter more than the other 2, so the reputation of each house didn't really impact my final decision.

Whenever I see a comment on here where the girl's decision looks "suspicious," I know there's a chance she could be making it up to make her house look better, but I think it's more likely that she had an experience similar to my own and wasn't superficial enough to base her final decision solely off of general chapter reputations or ranks on this site.

She was choosing between GPhi, DG and Pi Phi. As far as most people say DG is below G Phi and Pi Phi is above but not all that far above. I don't think it's even strange at all that she would pick G Phi out of that group. If those were my pref choices I probably would have chosen that way too. Anyway, leave her alone. If she's happy why do you care?

I'm glad to see someone who chose a house that wasn't at the very top. The only piece of advice my mom gave me is to go with my heart and not worry about tier rank. I had one house in each tier and put the bottom tier house first, then the top tier house, then the middle one last. I got my first choice and have loved my experience so far. The only thing that was hard was bid day. I had friends who were so condescending and one who even said "oh I'm so sorry" when she saw which house I got. I tried to explain that I chose them over a top house and she clearly didn't believe me. So I haven't mentioned it again.

Sounds like you went into recruitment with the right attitude. My advice is to not try to justify your pick. If someone says something like sorry you only got XYZ, say not at all -- they were my top pick all week! Then change the subject.

I don't feel sorry for those people because they clearly weren't rushing for the right reasons. I feel bad for the (fortunately small) group of girls who honestly gave every house a chance but got cut from all of them. Recruitment can be a hard environment for PNMs to make clear decisions in the moment, but when someone is only willing to accept a bid from a top tier house, they deserve to get cut more than someone who would be grateful to get a bid from even the very lowest ranked chapter.
