are off campus guys off limits?

by: Hm

So today an active in the sorority I'm pledging told me to not look for guys in off campus houses because they're "their weird and couldn't get a bid anywhere else." And if I'm looking for guys I should look in the top houses. Is this just a stereotype or is this true? I've met some guys in off campus fraternities and some are really good looking but it's not acceptable in my sorority.

off-campus guys aren't "off limits", but it'll likely be more difficult to meet them due to social calendars that your chapters have. Most chapters don't regularly swap with off-campus fraternities, especially since there are so many on-campus options. Your social schedule will introduce you to lots of guys with all-greek events and swaps and such, but don't worry so much about finding a guy! unless of course you're only at this school for an MRS degree!!

Along the same lines, have any new members been told that they can't associate with GDIs?

If you decide you can't date GDI's you are missing out on most guys at UA. Same with off-campus frats, who cares? My bf is a GDI, he goes with me to sorority events, it's not an issue.

Please date whoever you want. No actives can really keep up with which pledge is dating who. And honestly, we don't care.

I ahve been told in the past that some sororities encourage their members to associate with members of certain fraternities and not with members of other certain fraternities.
But I don't know if that's the truth.
Sounds like an urban rumor to me.

People take Greek life way too seriously at this school. Literally be friends with who you want to be. It makes life that much easier.

I have seen it countless times, it is not the sorority that is taking stands on who girls can date but some members that take perception and image way to seriously. They tell their little sisters who they can date and who they can't date, which of course this circulates and becomes fact by many. I know this from first hand experience. I had one date tell me her big sister told her not to go out with me because I was not in one of the fraternities her big sister said was ok to be involved with regardless that we swapped with them and had several members dating members of the sorority.

Sadly, just like every tier poster on this site, there are way too many insecure people who require the approval of others. Posting their opinion of tiers to justify their own choice in fraternity.sorority they made.

Off campus guys are sometimes better. They don't really have egos and there working hard to build up their chapter.

This sounds like a thread from the 1950's. No one tells girls who they can go out with. Some girl might give her personal opinion that all off campus greeks are weird or something, but that's just her (obviously stupid) opinion. She's not dictating who a new member can go out with.

This was written by a guy. You can tell by the wording "sorority I'm pledging" Prob the same guy on here that keeps asking about having dates if he's in a certain frat or not in one.
