we need another house to colonize

by: Obviously

It's painfully obvious. Way too many cuts. I think Sigma Kappa would be the most relevant then maybe Alpha Xi Delta. What do you think?

With pledge class sizes being what they are, I say let any of them colonize that want to! Alpha Xi Delta, Sigma Kappa, Tri Sigma, etc. Pledge classes need to be under 100.

We need the only other nationally know name like SK but all the others, come on. I would hesitate on DPHIE they struggle at all there GA chapters.

AXiD, SK, and DPhiE have all had chapters here already - twice. They may not be willing or able to put it out there again and do what it takes to be competitive here, but you never know. IMO, the obvious first thing is for SDT to participate in formal recruitment. They have been here for like 85 years or something, so they have an alumnae base, and it seems like they kind of have a panhellenic duty at this point to step it up to help things out.

Ok. Seriously agree we need expansion but smart growth. Let theta lead the way on this -- be smaller on purpose. Have something other than a McMansion. Once Pi phi finishes, Assumng theta does not rebuild, offer one of the swing houses for sdt and one for a new go that wants to come but keep it "old school" with classes capped at 75 or something G. Many pnms will want the more intimate experience. We are adding numbers to the university so let's offer different kinds of glo options.

You're not advocating forcing lower totals on certain chapters, I assume, but by choice?

.... trying to create a niche that's not there? Nobody wants an alternative, smaller sorority experience at this school. They come for tradition and tradition means coming to win. AZD, DPE, PSS, Tri S nor TPA have the resources to play, which means building a huge big house. Trying to stick someone in a swing house without a big, new house coming is the kiss of death for any group.

Add SK to The above list of groups that does not have resources to play here.

I think @not Norman makes an interesting point but I also think any chapter that is not all in will be seen by pnms as not desired. Key is for a few houses to be in recruitment that are niche houses from the word go - by choice - and for panhel to work real hard to help them exist as a desired alternative.

I take it that gphi and dg are success stories and could provide a blue print for new glos considering joining the major leagues here at Bama. It may take a little while to build the quality but they would be at quota fast.

If the new chapters are Panhellenic affiliated (and obviously they will be) they have to try to follow Panhellenic rules, that's just part of being a member of panhel. That means quota, total, etc. SDT is a special case because they struggled but that's not the norm. It's not a bad idea, just wouldn't be possible I don't think

A couple of Boutique Sororities sounds cool. Renovated swing houses. Special swag. Unique boutique (only) parties.

Yet, GR would chew them up and spit them out during recruitment.

No one wants that kind of sorority experience here. Everyone wants big chapters, big houses and all the usual trappings of an Alabama sorority.

That's why SDT has suffered and anyone else coming in halfway would too.

They already tried "boutique/alternative" a decade ago with the local/multicultural sororities, and none of those have survived.

SDT is a special case because their national and their alumnae would rather let them limp along as "the un-sorority" than close the chapter. Unless they suddenly figure out a way to compete on equal footing with the other chapters, bringing them into formal recruitment would be a disaster, even with a swing house. The chapter at Texas tried to do formal the past three years, and they got nothing but grief. PNMs would be mean to them on purpose so they'd get cut. They finally got the message and went back to informal this year.

According to somebody who's posted here and supposedly in the know, AXiD has no interest in coming back to Bama ever.

DPhiE presented three years ago but got rejected. They don't have the resources or the appeal. Same for AEPhi, Phi Sigma Sigma, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Alpha Sigma Tau, and Theta Phi Alpha.

Tri Sigma more than likely doesn't have the resources. They're colonizing at Auburn, but they don't have a house to worry about. The chapter at Mizzou is barely staying afloat.

Sigma Kappa seems like the most likely choice, but they'll have to go all in.

Capping quota and total or setting different quotas and totals for different houses would create nothing but resentment.

Theta is going to have to rebuild if they hope to survive. If their numbers take a nosedive, that's going to be it for them. Theta national won't hesitate to pull the charter of an underperforming chapter.

How many girls are in SDT? Did they pledge good numbers for them?

They are a good boutique group.

They have about 60 members I think

DG is a definite success story! They recolonized after being away from campus for years and intentionally have built a quality chapter by seeking quality members. They recruited hard for grades and leadership and character from the beginning. They have also worked to create a positive image on campus and have a successful philanthropy event every year. Gamma phi has been on campus for a long time, they've never had the caliber of girls that DG has gone after. They've gotten some positive buzz with the new house but they still aren't where they should be after such a long tenure on campus. If they want to be a good house, they need to recruit for quality, not numbers, and have members who have a positive image on campus. People, gphi sisters?, keep pumping their pledge class this year, still too early to tell though. They didn't start off well with a pledge getting into a brawl the first week of school. JMHO
