Both were hot going in but faded as week wore on. No offense. Both great girls. There were hundreds of top pnms. Such a great group and a deep group.

They all were in one way or another. It was a high quality group. Recruitment is all about finding your fit, the girls that were themselves generally were sought after by their types of sororities.

as to why the two names mentioned were highly sought after. nothing against them, but are they great girls with traditional southern values and scholarship? surely they were high achievers academically and in athletics in high school, or leaders in their community right?

lol

what is important to different sororities here?

The same things: grades, activities, beauty, family connections, money.

Sought after means known in state that have connections oos girls may be prettier more accomplished but they aren't known to the sorority for the most part

You act like we don't have UA alum planted all over the country. There are plenty of OOS girls that are daughters to UA Alums and legacies to sororities. "Sought after" does not mean "who you know".

Boy, we have some narrow and small minds in the world.

And therein lies the problem--'old school' thinking. UA is no longer in their little southern bubble. There are many oos girls who are equally accomplished --greater percentage have better connections, 'real' old money, and the academics. However I will say that i believe many houses have changed their mindset when it comes to oos girls. The best houses are those that have balance in my opinion.

True but many of those girls (that i know) have made their mark (i.e. great academics, campus involvement, etc.).

Most OOS are here because they got scholarships based on grades and test scores

Honors orientation was heavily OOS attendees

Definitely a talented group. Connections, especially Alabama connections are probably weak among OOS.

Not sure about $$. Probably runs the range

But, if these OOS were driven by a need to be connected they probably would have stayed home.

Bottom line, assume they will evaluate houses based on fit and likes.

That being said, this is the University of ALABAMA, and can't imagine it losing the panache of old row. Otherwise, it's like shopping at Home Depot - the same everywhere.

Yes, old row needs to be mindful of the changes, but complete assimilation seems like a loss of identity. \n\n\n\n\n
