preffing at your legacy house

by: legacy

I want to pref at my legacy house to make my sister happy, but my heart is with another house. I'm worried if I put my legacy #2 after pref I'll still end up with them on bid day? Is this true?

If you are on your #1 house's first bid list, you'll match there. If you rank your legacy 2nd and you don't match with your #1, you'll get a bid to your legacy house. Most all houses require legacies to go on the first bid list.

If you don't want to join your legacy house, you should have ranked it a high number tonight.

Rush for yourself, not your sister. It's your life.

Legacy status has no bearing on the computer system. The system looks at YOUR first choice and checks it against that houses' bid list. If you are on the list, that's your match. If you didn't match that house and they fill up with matches before they get to your name, it checks the second list. If you are on that list- it's a match and you get your second choice. If you don't match there, it checks the third list.If you are on there, you get the third choice. If not, the computer adds you to a list- usually your first choice- as a quota addition. No one knows who was a quota addition. Basically, it won't hurt your chances with the house you love, to pref your sister's house. I would just reiterate when you go to the house you love that you may want to take a different path from her.

at your legacy as a safety net. Most legacies who attend prefs at their legacy house are placed on the first bid list. If you list the legacy chapter first then you will most likely have a bid to that house. They will list you first, you list them first= match. If, however, you list another chapter first, the computer will try to match you to your first choice., so if that chapter puts you on their first bid list, then you will get a bid from them because you listed them first. If your #1 sorority reaches quota before they get to your name, and you were on choice number 2's first bid list, in this case your legacy chapter, then you will receive a bid from them. The same scenario happens if you don't match to either your # 1 or # 2 choices.

Please tell your sister in advance so she won't be devastated to see you're not on their list. Of course it's possible you will match there because you are not high enough on the other houses' lists.

True! If you aren't there for their bid day and go somewhere else it will be 100% obvious they weren't your first choice. Tell her now.
