be yourself

by: regrets

I went through recruitment last year with an idea of what houses wanted. I didn't think my true self was what any house wanted. fell in love with a house and wanted so desperately to get a bid but they dropped me on Pref day. I was heart broken because I was trying so hard to be what they wanted. There were a few houses house I didn't like from day one and I thought if I was just myself they'd drop me for sure but instead they were the only ones that kept me until bid day. I love my home but I will always wonder how things would've been if i had just relaxed and had more fun with it. The best advice I can give PNMs is to be yourself. You want a house to love you for you. don't get caught up in rankings and tent talk and just follow your heart. Rush is amazing and it truly will work as long as you make the most out of it and you're true to yourself. good luck girls!!

Houses are considered top, middle, or bottom for things that might not necessarily be anything you're interested in. Do they take a lot of legacies from instate for example. If you're from California, being a top house that's mostly all local girls would be stifling and make for few lasting friendships. That's why you can't get all involved in the ranking aspect. The girls doing the recruiting are looking at you to see if you fit their house. If you don't and choose it anyway because you think they're ranked higher than a house that fits you better, you're going to be miserable during your 4 years here.

So be yourself. All the houses are good, even the ones that get dragged around on this stupid site. Choose girls that are like you and that you'd want to be around. Bottom line, you can't change yourself to impress someone else that you "got an old row house."

Great comment! Realize that a lot of what is posted here is based on old perceptions that actives get from mama or grandma. Pick the place where you feel the best, and if you get a sorority that wasn't your first choice, give them a chance. The bottom line is that group wanted you, wouldn't you rather be in a relationship where you are wanted rather than one with a group that didn't pick you? I've seen pnms drop because they got their third choice and then they have a terrible year. If they go through recruitment again, odds are they won't get a better opportunity, if they get a bid at all. A lot of sororities will doubt your commitment, and with so many pnms this year they would rather go with someone who is going to be in the group for 4 years.
