worried that i can't afford to rush..

by: 00s

I'm an OOS student and this is my first year. I'm so excited to rush but the sorority fees are so high. Are there different payment options? If so, can you please explain?

Expect to spend a minimum of $7,000 for your first year (both semesters), and it could be thousands more. Payments can be monthly in many houses, or by semester.

It is expensive. But that cost includes meals although you will need greek55. Go figure out the difference between full meal plan and Greek 55 and deduct that.

You can get out of buying the Greek 55 plan.

If you think you can't afford it, then don't. If you have to drop after a semester then you're taking a bid away from a girl who can afford it. It's not just dues you have to pay for. Swap clothes, t-shirts, philanthropy money, date party dresses, there's a lot of other expenses that you have to cover. Plus money to go out and stuff. I personally would not want to be counting pennies for every little thing.

The OP is asking for facts about payments. Everyone does not have daddy's credit card. Many smart PNMs actually budget for their annual university costs including sorority.

If it is tight. Take a pass and do it in spring or next fall once you have friends and can make a better and more mature decision. Don't create a money problem for yourself. There is life outside of Greek life and some like it better to be unaffiliated

Hey! I was in the same boat as you. If you're worried about it, call the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and they can usually give you some more detailed information on prices. I don't even think you have to say your name if you're worried about houses finding out. I am not rich and am a senior in a sorority. Payment plans are available in my house and they spread out the cost into a few payments. Definitely be aware during rush as dues can vary greatly. Most dues seem to be around $2,700-$3,500 a semester.
