What's the difference between a swap and a date party? What is a formal?

A swap/pledge party/ "open house party" is when usually just the pledge class of one sorority swaps with just the pledge class of a fraternity. Sometimes it can be the whole house for both organizations but it's usually just for the new members. Sometimes they're themes like a paint swap etc.

You have to be invited by a frat bro to a date party.
