Bud, you being from California is gonna get you a swift kick to the door at most old row house unless you know someone or have family connections to a house (literally that chapter), except Phi Delt. But even so you won't vibe with these guys, go join Theta Chi, Pike, Sigma Chi, Pi Kapp, Beta, Delta Chi, Lambda Chi, Kappa Sig, etc. All great houses and you'll probably have more in common with them.
I would also say Theta Chi and Pike are on par if not better than some of the old row houses, with Sigma Chi and Pi Kapp right there too.

All pledges get picked on for something. If a house gives you a bid then they like you fine. After initiation it won't matter.

Top New Row is way better than a lot of Old Row fraternities, trust me. go pike, sigma chi, theta chi, etc. Those are good but I mean honestly all the fraternities at Bama are top notch and all party like crazy and all pull tons of girls. You will be happy literally anywhere
