theta question

I won't say they're the worse, but they definitely need a bit of work. My roommates were Theta's, and I've met their friends, also in Theta, and lets just say they weren't the nicest people. They were very stuck up, and bragged about Theta as if its the best sorority around on campus. I didn't hear much of them this year because they were on probation first semester, but even afterwards they barely threw date parties and some fraternities hated swapping with them. Not proven facts or anything, just from what I hear. Overall, go into rush with an open mind and don't let the negative comments about Theta make you worry because you might like other houses!!

My legacy is Gamma Phi Beta. I have debated even disclosing it because they are a lower house on here too. What's the deal with them?

GREEK RANK is Confirmation Biased

Confirmation bias occurs when people filter out potentially useful facts and opinions that don't coincide with their preconceived notions. The tendency for individuals to favor information or data that support their beliefs. It is also the tendency for people to only seek out information that supports their pre-existing conclusions, and subsequently ignores evidence that might refute that pre-existing conclusion.

OP: Are you looking to confirm your already existing bias before you even walk into their house?

This is a time for pnms to be selfish. Look inside to see how YOU feel about a house, don't think about what everyone else is saying. You know for yourself what kind of house you want so don't worry about tent talk, rumors, and greekrank.

I have really great friends that are theta's and gphi's and they are the sweetest people! What you have to understand is that there are nice girls and not so nice girls in every single sorority at Alabama. There are so many different girls that you're going to find ones you clique with you just have to go in with an open mind and base your decisions on how YOU personally feel and not anyone else!

Remember, greeklife is more than the four years that you attend school. Theta has one of the best national reputations. Aside from its rep nationally, look at its ranking at the top ten most prestigious, elite and exlusive universities in the country (official ranked top ten us news, not in order:

Brown Top house
Johns Hopkins third rank
Columbia fifth rank
Stanford top house
Upenn Second rank
Duke Second rank
Princeton top house
Uchicago fifth rank

Obviously theta attracts brilliant girls and the best of the most brilliant girls. Many "top" sororities at Bama don't even have houses or affiliations with these elite schools. The girls at these elite schools that are they as are who the thetas at Bama will network with after college and call their sisters.
