phi mu?

by: pnm

I'll be rushing this fall and as of right now Phi Mu is my top choice. Don't get me wrong though I'm completely 100% open to all sororities but PM is just the most appealing to me at the moment. I was wondering what the overall feel of this sorority is? Actual difficulty of receiving a bid? How genuine is their sisterhood? What are some of their basic qualifications they look for in pma's?

They look for lots of southern types, generally you have to know girls in there to really feel comfortable. If you're not from the south you may feel somewhat out of place. They are nice enough girls but the sisterhood is so so and it really resembles high school because most girls went to the same couple of schools as their sisters. They are old row, so they do hold legacies slightly higher than most others, but you really shouldn't count on it if you're a legacy- there are just so many here. They are very attractive people but some may say they have been slipping lately. Gorgeous new house from what I've seen!

I can name 10 girls off the top of my head who are from OOS. Can't say that about other top houses.

I really liked Phi Mu at the spring teas, they had a fun vibe and they seemed to have a great sisterhood! From what I hear they look at high school involvement, grades and looks. I am from OOS but I met a fair amount of girls from outside of Alabama!

My friend from my hometown is a phi mu but we aren't from the south. She does love it but says she feels some what less close to her sisters in comparison to the girls who are from the south.

The post above is fair and to be expected. Oos ladies just appreciate that southern girls that have connections already to a house tend to stick together as new members and outsiders are tolerated and welcome but never really break in. So the houses you see all the in state girls chattering about are the ones to be wary of as an oos.

Phi Mu had the reputation to recruit very heavily based on looks. I've heard directly from a phi mu that because this is almost the only thing they look at, that pledge classes often have a difficult time bonding but it seems that they usually get it together sometime second semester. I personally would never want to be a phi mu simply because I would rather be a part of a sorority that's rank is rising rather then falling (sorry not sorry). They're a very desired house during recruitment by certain pnms. Once rush starts you'll be able to tell if they're your type of people.
