Are you pretty much guaranteed a bid from the houses you visit on pref night

Yes. But you MUST have maximized your options. for example, you cannot miss a party during the entire week. missing one is not maximizing your options.

There were actually a lot of girls this year who didn't get the house they listed first after pref. A lot of surprise on bid day

If they attended all the pref parties they were invited to (max of 3) and ranked all of them, while they may not have gotten a bid from their first choice, they most likely got a bid.

YOU ARE 100% GUARANTEED A BID IF YOU RANKED / LISTED ALL OF THE HOUSES YOU PREFFED - with that being said... that DOES NOT mean you are guaranteed the houses in the way you ranked them, you might get your 2nd or 3rd choice but you still get a bid!!

Don't expect that you will get your first choice for sure. Don't list all 3 houses if you aren't really willing to accept a bid from all of the houses. Not cool, and don't think the house you snubbed won't try to get you dropped from recruitment if you try again, they will!

Nah, I've seen girls who dropped and next year got a different sorority.

BUT, as everyone else said, chances are very, very good that if you rank all your pref sororities, you will get a bid from one of them.
