by: 2020I'll be a freshman in the fall and am excited about formal rush. I've got all my recs lined up and know a few girls at Bama - just not a lot. My concern is that I'm overweight. I have a ton of friends and a great sense of humor, but I just don't know how I'll come across during rush. I know first impressions are crucial. What can I do to help my chances?

I'm in the same boat as you and for me personally I can wear A two-piece bathing suit withoutpeople staring or anything but I still feel chubby compared to most of the other girls who go through rush

As someone who was overweight when I went through, please just try to have peace of mind. Just a little on my experience- while I did get a bid, obviously, I sort of felt like the choice was out of my hands. Try to be as open minded as possible because while there are bigger girls in top houses, 99% of them had strong connections. If you get cut hard (I went from 16 to 6 after the first round) just remember it only takes one. As a bigger girl it's definitely less of which houses you want and more of which houses want you.

Looks do count, but they aren't everything. I agree. Start a health regimen now and you'll be more fit by August. But for all girls that aren't the perfect PNM, realize that you need to have an open mind and an open heart. Look carefully at every house because if you think you're too good for any house, you may end up without.
