this is the real truth pnms

by: Diddo!

This is Alabama, the arguably one of the biggest sorority systems in the country, but that's not the point. EVERY chapter here is good. Even if where you end up is not a top tier, I promise that no one thinks any less of you. If they do, then you don't want them in your life. If someone judges you because you're not old row or because you're in a sorority perceived as elitist, then they're not worth keeping around. As a member of a new row sorority frequently ranked near the end, I was just as worried as you are that people would not like me or I'd be judged unfairly. While it is the reality that there is some preference given to old row and top tier sororities, I have at least one friend or acquaintance in every sorority and they are all amazing girls. I know girls that defy every stereotype--- smart alpha phis, out of state KDs, pretty Thetas. None of them are true. Please keep this in mind and go into recruitment with an open mind and heart, regardless of where you think you'll end up based on a stereotype. I know top PNMs that I wouldn't want in our sorority, not because of anything about them, just because I know they'd be happier somewhere else. Believe it or not, the goal of sororities aren't just to get the hottest and smartest rich girls, but to find girls that would enjoy and enrich our sisterhood.

I agree. Everyone here knows it's true but there are people who went here years ago that want to make sure the old rankings stay in place for when their daughters get here. They can't accept that things have drastically changed. It's kind of sad to see these rankings because they're so out of touch.

I'm in my last year and know many girls who have spent 4 years regretting that they dropped out of recruitment because they felt like they "didn't fit in" the houses they had left. All of them admit that they based their feeling on which houses had "low house" reputations. One friend went through her sophomore year and was happy to get a house that is always one of the very lowest and has been very happy. I wish all pnms knew the truth of the original post and would not drop out of recruitment. THERE ARE NO BAD HOUSES HERE. Any house that loves you enough to give you a bid will be a thousand times better than being an independent or transferring elsewhere.

Also a recipe for disappointment is to pick something because your high school friends say you should even though the house is not really you. Make your own decision and keep your own counsel!
