enjoy while you can

A few years from now, when you are out on the job market or applying for law/med/professional school, your Greek affiliation will work against you. The stereotype of the stupid, frivolous sister/ frat boy is hard to work against so you'll end up dropping it from your resume. You will wonder why you invested so much time in your sorority/fraternity. ( If you think Greek life won't affect your grades, You're delusional. ) Sorry to be a downer but I now have serious regrets about the whole thing.
Enjoy Greek life while you can and stay safe.

Being Greek can be a great thing on resumes - make it work for you. Don't JUST be a member, have a position. Don't JUST join a house, participate in other clubs, teams, or activities. At least for the girls, Greek life will only affect your grades if you let it, so just make sure you keep a balance and remember why you're at Cornell in the first place! To all new members, have an amazing 3.5 years in the Greek community!

It DID work out for me once I dropped any reference to Greek life from my cv. Again, read the comments on this Greek Rank webpage and you'll understand why job interviewers and grad programs smirk when they see sororities listed on resumes. The fact that you have to "speak to it" in interviews (justify your participation? geez)) underscores what I'm talking about.

Fraternities definitely help people get jobs after school by expanding your network and giving you contact with alumni
Also, in the professional world people don't only care about work, they want to hire people they will enjoy being around. Greek life participation can distinguish an applicant as more socially adept

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, but to be blunt, I'm a senior with a job. The majority of my PC has jobs or grad school already lined up. All of the girls who graduated from my house last year either got great jobs or grad school (many Ivy League). Greek life doesn't define or determine a person's ability for achievement - as I said, as long as you learn something from the experience and can talk to it in interviews you're good. Being Greek only helped me.
