Are recolonized houses worth it?

by: recolonized

Don't know much about them other than Llenroc has a sick house so I'll check them out. What are the other recols like vibes-wise? How will my experience in them be impacted? Are they as easy to get bids from like other lowers?

If you want greeklife work to be a big part of your experience, then consider it. Otherwise, stick to established houses. All the new houses have smaller brotherhoods and little to no rep, so marketing to sororities, pivotal rush cycles, and open parties will be your experience if you join one of those. If that interests you then go for it, but if you want a more laid back experience I wouldn’t bother.

Check out the thread "Most potential of the recolonizing frats," lots of info there.

There was another thread but it's gone. It made the point that given the historic strength/consistency of most of the recolonized frats, it can be an opportunity to buy in to those brotherhoods at a low price so to speak. That's likely true.

Of the five frats in this group, Llenroc and Fiji have their act together the most. SNu is doing fine too.

It really just matters who you vibe with. If you go to a recolonized house that ends up being your favorite, don’t not pick it just because it’s recolonizing. But do pay attention to if it’s on the upward Trend or not. Places like SAE and llenroc seem to be moving up decently quick by putting work into big parties, events, etc to establish connections, while places like DKE seem to not be doing a whole lot. Some recolonized houses already have a lot of the hard work done, a couple others will be some more work but that shouldn’t deter anyone.

Also understand that the five recolonized frats are very different from one another. One of the few things they have in common is that they’re recolonized. SAE and Lenroc have different vibes and have gone about their recolonizations very differently. Fiji has historically been the largest brotherhood on campus, in contrast to the others. SNU’s historically been an athlete house and SAM hasn’t. No judgments here, just making the point that you can’t think about these five houses as interchangeable.

So what are their vibes like? Figuring out what to rush; I hear Llenroc is classy/chill and they have a sick house so I’ve got them on my list. No clue with the others

Yeah vibes for llenroc is accurate to what you said, SAE have been having big ways with lots of frats and sorority’s , also decently wealthy kids with a good amount of Hotelies and Dyson. House is also arguably one of the nicer ones on campus. Fiji also has a very n good house, hasn’t really thrown a lot though, but given their potential I could see spring rush being big.

I see SAE is trying to be more lowkey in how they grind… regardless I don’t think there’s a lot of appeal in joining a recolonizing house. You’re essentially just spending your whole time at Cornell building an organization that you’re never going to purely enjoy. The people who join those frats get lured in to the idea that the fraternity will become what it once was, but the reality is is that most of the time that doesn’t happen (especially with frats gone for more than 4 years). Would recommend joining even a lower house over a recolonizing house because you at least can enjoy the frat the whole time.

Dawg I don’t think this is an SAE grind it’s actually someone using this site to gain useful information ☠️

For context: Chi Psi recolonized in 2016, ZBT in 2014, and Sig Pi in 2013. They quickly returned to their historic strength. Given the strength and alumni of some of the current recolonized frats (Fiji, Llenroc) and their great physical houses, anyone suggesting they’re not coming back well is kidding themselves.

These frats also aren’t just recolonized. Most recolonized in 2022 and this is their third or fourth rush, they have 30 or more brothers, and they’re living in their houses. Llenroc and SNU are living in houses they actually own, whereas half the frats on campus rent.

There are some frats that don’t want these recols to succeed and are spreading the message above. That’s to be expected. But more frats and srats are a good thing for everyone.

We have dudes pretending to be freshmen just to answer their own questions. Sad scene at Cornell these days.
