How do I rush a top frats
by: TruthWhen I came to cornell in august, I didn’t have much of an idea about the Greek scene here and wanted to go in with a blank slate. However, I’ve noticed that everyone wants to be in a “top” house here (Namely AD, Sigphi and Sigchi) but I don’t know how to reach out to them or introduce myself. A lot of other kids I know have been invited to these houses but I have been left out. What advice would you give?

None of it matters in the real world. Focus on developing genuine, real relationships with people you like. A fraternity’s a good way to do that, but you can do so outside of it. Being in a brotherhood is a hell of an experience though. Don’t be a social climber; this school’s culture is competitive enough.
A lot of these kids knew brothers in the house before they came here. The Ivy League isn’t friendly to those with blank slates; I’m sure you’ve noticed with legacy/donor kids with strong ties to Cornell and kids with resumes more stacked than full-time professionals getting into all the career clubs while kids who don’t know the difference between investment banking and consulting get screwed.
Honestly, just be authentic to yourself. Going in cold is fine if the brothers think you’re alright. If they don’t, there’s a house for everyone here. If you decide greek isn’t for you, that’s fine too. College is tough, but you gotta get lost before you can find yourself.
