Repercussions for in person rush

by: Question

To preface, I’m a relatively poor kid compared to a lot of ppl at Cornell. As a result I’m hesitant to go to in person rush events because I’m worried about the financial and other repercussions that might occur (another post got me worried). If, for example, I’m sent home for the semester, I can’t really afford that. Does anyone know what kind of disciplinary action cornell might take if ur caught? What were the repercussions last year?

literally nothing more than a slap on the wrist at most. your first JA is waived and nothing happens, at most you would maybe write an essay on alcohol awareness

Cool of you to bring awareness to the inequity here, but trust me, there's no risk. Cornell is all talk. Only risk is not getting any bids.

As someone who rushed last year and went to in-person events, there wasn't any repruscussions. And I dont think any house got in trouble for a rush event. Also you wouldnt get in trouble, the house would. I would def not worry about it.

The house would certainly get in trouble but each rush would be liable for breaking the student compact which did get athletes kicked out circa fall 2020. But it also isn’t fall 2020 anymore …. No one really knows the answer

I get what your saying but trust me you will have no financial implications if you get caught. It’s also a lot easier for the frat to get in trouble. For you to get caught the cops would prob have to show up and take down your name. Even if that does happen you’ll probably just get a JA.

no repercussions would fall on you. but just a heads up if you’re worried about that kind of stuff, in general when you’re in greek life, at least for frats, you’re gonna be taking bigger risks going against the school than this kind of stuff. as in cornell has made it an uphill battle to dodge their restrictions around literally any social gathering, rush, any form of fun you can think of. not to discourage but that’s how it is, you gotta risk it and not be risk adverse at this school to have some good fun
