Who’s going to Brown over Caltech? Honestly who’s going to a Cornell over Caltech?

lmao i hate rankings and everything, its absolute bs BUT my younger just graduated high school and got into Brown, Dartmouth and Caltech among some other schools and chose Brown. He didn't want to be in an extremely small school like Caltech and is pre-Med or pre-Phd and Brown has excellent life science research.

If the point is to separate out COE, then yes, Cornell COE is low tier 1, but comparable to U Mich, Univ of Illinois, Purdue and UT Austin. If the ranking is holistic undergrad ranking then Cornell is right where you have it, t2. If Cornell weren't an Ivy it would fall to t3 for overall undergrad ranking.

Cornell CoE in engineering terms is comparable to Michigan, Princeton, UT Aust, UC Berk, UIUC, UCLA and UCSD.... but in terms of prestige and how people would choose undergraduate schools its right there with Columbia

t1 is valedictorians, salutorians and generally all-around interesting personalities
t2 is the rest of the smart and ambitious kids
t3 is the ambitious kids but not top level intelligent

Going to a top school doesn’t mean you have an interesting personality. If anything, the more time people spend studying and focused on school the less interesting they are

FYI People who just spent time studying don’t even get into t1 lol, those are the t2 and t3 kids… getting into HYPSM+ requires much more than good grades and good extracurriculars

It’s just not true, there’s many unremarkable people at those schools who spend every waking second studying. I know many of them. It’s honestly a lottery getting into the top tier for most people.

But why is studying an unremarkable thing? Lol learning and working is unremarkable and daging and dressing up for parties funded by your parents is remarkable?

no one is saying all of them are geniuses with interesting personalities... but if Cornell is maybe 20% highest tier, interesting talent and Brown is maybe 40-50% highest tier talent, then schools in HYPSM+ category are 85-95% highest tier, interesting talent.... its a massive difference
