by: Moron

Imagine thinking that UVA is a better school than Cornell. Give me a break, this guy is out of his mind. ā€œSimilar prestige,ā€ are you high?

i never said UVA was better, i said Cornell was better but not better enough to justify leaving a great state school option... for what its worth i know that Cornell engineering is a really really great option for people interested in that but the rest of Cornell is really behind its Ivy+ peers (except Dartmouth) ... most people on the East Coast at least frankly do consider not-engineering Cornell in the same tier as Dartmouth, Gtown, UCLA, UVA, etc... if it's a hard pill to swallow, then im sorry lmfao

Keep self validating on the prestige given that is the only thing you keep on trying to reassure yourself about.

go ask non Cornell, non uva alum which they think is more prestigious and the super majority of them will say Cornell. Stop trying to validate your decision by gaslighting yourself into believing UVA is better than Cornell.

i dont think virginia is better than cornell lmao, its simple economics, i (and many others) just don't think the opportunity cost of not attending cornell is greater than the benefits of attending virginia... i was almost cornell bound so i did think cornell is a good school... but is it an elite school that warrants forgoing a similar tier school- no

im sorry if this is a shock to you but a lot people choose schools like UCLA, Berkeley, Virginia, etc over Cornell (and Dartmouth too lol) ... even my childhood friend who went to St. Albans School says he knows plenty of people who have made similar decisions with regards to Cornell... if I had gotten into Stanford or Columbia or someplace like that, I'd obviously not think twice about moving out to there but Cornell is not an easy decision

tbh I could understand picking UCLA or Berkeley over Cornell but choosing a school like Virginia over Cornell is idiocracy

You’re reading into rankings too hard if you think UVA is actually on par with a Cornell

and for the last time, i 100% know Cornell is better than UVA but Cornell is not enough of a bump to warrant choosing over in-state Virginia

By: michael
by: michael

i understand that basic economics. If i had gotten into HYPSM/Columbia/Penn/Duke and maybe even Brown, I'd choose those over in-state Virginia but Cornell is too borderline to take seriously

how socially lame is Cornell when half their greek rank posts are about the prestige of the school as a whole? is there not enough in greek life to find more relevant topics?

by: What

There’s like 6500 posts on here about about frat ranks and like ten on ranking Cornell as a whole

No one ever said UVA was better than Cornell, just that they were comparable, which is objectively true. It is also true that Cornell is an Ivy and carries more prestige than UVA, but Cornell is clearly less prestigious than HPYSM. Status is an interesting and fluid thing, and the diversification of student bodies is diluting the advantage of Ivy League credentials. Families who in the past would have had a lock on an Ivy League education are displaced and take their students and connections to other non-Ivy schools. The network is becoming broader, which is a fact, and elite public schools are closing the gap.

Cornell’s acceptance rate is 1/3 of UVA’s lmfao. You’re actually an idiot.

by: hmm

If you look at the numbers for 2021, Cornell's acceptance rate is a little under half that of UVA, not a third. UVA is legally obligated to ensure 2/3 of its students come from Virginia, which skews the acceptance rate. OOS UVA acceptance rate is 17%.

Meanwhile Cornell's 2021 acceptance rate is twice that of Northwestern. Does that mean that Northwestern is without dispute a better school than Cornell? Of course not - there are many factors to consider beyond acceptance rate.

Northwestern’s is 7% and Cornell’s is 8%. That’s not half of Cornell’s.

Not sure where you get the 8% rate for Cornell. Here are the self reported numbers:

47,038 students applied to Cornell University of which 5,889 students were accepted, yielding an overall acceptance rate of 12.5%;

Northwestern accepted 6.8 percent of the 47,633 first-year applications received for the Class of 2025.

67000 people applied brainiac. And the accepted total is too high. It’s 8%.

Cornell's 2021 regular decision acceptance rate was over 10%. Combine that with the shockingly high 25% acceptance rate for early decision and there is no way the acceptance rate was 8%.

You’re losing all credibility by arguing against facts. The acceptance rate was objectively 8% this year. Are you looking at stats from five years ago hahaha?

Self reported stats for class of 2024 show that only 83% of the incoming class was in the top 10% of their high school class.... for Yale it was 96%, Harvard was 95% and Penn was 93% .... big difference buddy

the harsh truth that kids at Cornell wont ever digest but will be exposed to all throughout their lives is that if they didnt go to Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Yale or Princeton then you are not the best and because you didn't go to UPenn, Columbia, UChicago or West Point/Naval Academy you aren't even top tier talent... everything below these is not as prestigious as your deluded mind thinks it is, UVA and Cornell are comparable, tho ofc Cornell is a little better but there's folks who easily take UCLA, Berkeley, etc over Cornell

By: LOL
by: Delusional

Literally no one thinks UCLA and Berkeley are better schools except people that go to UCLA and Berkeley
