SNU and SAE are back

by: lol

"No frats will vote to let them recolonize. It's not in existing houses' best interest." Ok guy, well they're officially reinstated to recruit in the fall, so great prediction.

Will the recolonization of SNU and SAE prevent PSK and Kappa Sig and DKE from rising?

By: pert
by: some dude

possibly, but if recruitment #s go up with the forced on-campus housing next year, all of these chapters might be able to do well without hurting each other

Do SNU and SAE maintain their momentum before getting kicked?

Curious as well. Where will these new frats start on the hierarchy?

Similar to ChiPsi, especially for SAE. People joined ChiPsi b/c they knew it was a former top house and it would inevitably rise. I assume SAE will take a similar approach and start as a strong mid frat. SigNu was an upper tier house, but if TDX maintains as the football house it might be hard for them to ascend too quickly.

Also SAE will probably fill the void of PsiU. SigNu might try to take the place of PhiPsi.

DKE was once a top house though but now they’re lower mid after recolonization, which isn’t bad but not the same as before unless their new PC helps them ascend.

It’ll come down to who they pull in their opening pc. If they handout bids to bottom of the barrel people then obviously they’ll start out as bottom tier. But if they pull legacies and convince guys from AEM or a sports team to restart the frat then they’ll start at at least lower mid.

graduating senior so this is my take on it.
People are under the idea that they are going to come back like Chi Psi did. Chi Psi was gone for two years and were underground for those two years. While there seniors and juniors when they restarted were wack compared to what they once were, they were still at the very least mid guys. On the other hand, SAE has been gone for 10 years and SNU has been replaced by TDX as the football house who were 50% of their house when they were around. As the comment above says, unless they get a top notch AEM/ILR/Hotel class or athletes, it is going to be very challenging for both. The one thing I will say is, SAEs house will be a big draw for them. Personal thought is both will return as lower mids and after that, just upto how they recruit. Only 283 kids signed bids this year. If they don't win bids from good kids, I don't know how much they can really get.

Do we know what kind of brothers are leading the recolonization efforts?

Personally don't but that is quite literally what will affect how these frats do. If nationals gets some cool AEM/Hotel/ILR kids + some athletes, both frats have a good base to start recruiting from. But if they take anyone with a pulse like what TKE and DKE did, they are destined for mediocrity and will languish in the lower mid or below. This is not a Chi Psi situation as neither of these frats exist underground.

If SAE and SNU stay at lower mid, will we see more srats mix with lower mids since there are more of them or a resurgence in PSS/PM?

By: pledge acolyte
by: pledgemaster

lower mids dont really get mixers aside from PSS/PM. That is why the line of relevance ends with the C4 Mids. Frats below that line simply do not mix that much.

I feel like given SAE's history on campus they'll probably start off at mid or uppermid at the very least. They were a top house before getting kicked off, have an extremely strong national alumni base, and definitely have the potential to do well in the fall.

Would it be worth it to rush either of these houses in the fall if I'm looking for a solid frat experience/mixers/relevance?

by: ^^

This, plus if I'm interested in joining either of these houses in the fall will I be able to rush normally or will the alumni need to contact me?

You roll the dice on that one, they will have no mixing history, they have no history at all for at least last 3 years. It really depends on who they take. You may want to stick to the known houses.

generally how it works is that alumni and nationals will work to get together an initial group of guys who will usually bring in their friends and other people into the fold.

Does that process start now or will I only be able to try for these houses in the fall? Also how do they find the initial group of people?

They’ll probably play by the books and start recruiting in the fall. I don’t think dirty rush will even happen for them. Considering they have nothing to work with, they’ll probably be looking for mid tier guys, so if you’re a normal dude you’ll definitely be in the running at SigNu and SAE. The real trade off comes down to joining a house with established mixing schedule or being a founding class and shaping the house how you want. Personally, the latter sounds pretty appealing and sororities will probably be open to testing the waters. Also normally frats try to break up friend groups during rush, but here you might be able to pull like 5 of your buddies into the same house simply because a recolonizing frat doesn’t have the leverage to be choosy with bids.

like @guy said depends who they pick up. If they pick up guys who are friends with girls in mid and lower mid srats, then those srats might be open to testing them out. That is why the founding class is so crucial. All the mid houses have 70+ bros at the moment after spring rush so they need bodies.

If they pick a group of ten club athlete, AEM, or Hotel guys in the fall, they'll be on the path for recruiting an upper mid PC or better in the spring. But if their fall founding class is a bunch of cs nerds, obviously they won't have that successful of a recolonization. The latter is what happened at DKE, which is why it's taken a few years for them to get momentum. It'll come down to national reps and alumni convincing a couple socially competent/connected sophomore friend groups in fall rush.
