HYPSM then Caltech then Chicago/Penn/Columbia then Duke/Brown/Hopkins/Dartmouth then Cornell then Northwestern/Vandy/Emory

You’re taking the US news ranks too seriously (especially considering other big ranks like by Time and the Wall Street Journal have wildly diff ranks).
By upperclassman years and going through job/internship recruiting, you’ll realize that schools like Hopkins/Berkeley/Vandy are genuinely a significant step below Brown/Dartmouth/Cornell (and USC isn’t event in the conversation despite their inflated rank on usnews)

Top Tier looks pretty good
T2 is mostly right. Northwestern is equal or arguably below Cornell, Dartmouth, and Brown. Berkeley engineering is good, but Berkeley as a whole shouldn’t even be on the list.
For T3, agreed with the above comment by Senior- Hopkins/Vandy are actually a big drop down from Cornell.
