cornell sorority experience

by: question

PNM (as of rn) here interested in learning more about genuine experiences at cornell. PHC is posting testimonials from chapters but I feel like they are not genuine. I was wondering if there are any other sites or like an instagram page that has more genuine testimonials?

The testimonials they’re grabbing are from girls that like their house the most. For the most part they’re real but that’s obviously not everyone’s opinion

i think phc is just trying to be overtly positive, not acknowledging the sheer toxicity within the system

Glad I did it. I made a great friend group.

Sorority recruitment was really hellish and annoying for me, because it seemed like I had no judgment of when a conversation went “well” and when it didn’t. It’s a flawed process, really a matter of how quickly you can sell yourself rather than any other conventional measures you might think matter. Other people that are more naturally outgoing probably had an easier time.

“Trusting” the process is something you’re told to make the process more bearable, but there’s nothing particularly good about it until it’s over.

I dislike the vast majority of my former sorority. Kind of annoying or overly basic for my taste. You’re probably not going to be close with your entire sorority and honestly... don’t try to be. It’s exhausting and not worth it. Find your group

By junior year it Got old so I deactivated but it was fun.

overall would you recommend rushing to freshmen or others looking for more friends and a social life?

I really recommend joining a house, or at least going through recruitment. Yes, the testimonies on the panhell instagram are definitely people talking about the very best of their houses, but that does not mean that what they are saying isn't true. There are so many different types of girls in all of the houses on campus, that you are basically bound to find people who you fit well with and will be able to become great friends with. And if you go through rush and don't find a house you love, no harm! At least you explored the opportunity.

You'll also have so many great opportunities for leadership, and it's so helpful to be able to talk to older girls to get advice on classes and clubs (seriously, even though everyone says that). I've had ups and downs in my house, but I can say that I have met the most amazing friends, role models, and supporters, and I'm really happy that I ended up joining a house.

Got a “top” house. Rush was hell. Was told I was a token minority by many once I got my bid. The vast majority of my class had been friends coming in and we’re super cliquey. Found it really difficult to make friends. Ultimately Dropped. This was a few years ago so hopefully has gotten better.
