What are the pros and cons of joining a non-Panhel sorority versus the panhel ones?

non panhals like Delta Phi Nu or KBG are way cheaper, I don't find they haze, they have good sisterhoods too. The only difference with NPC is they are bigger and have houses at UofT but you will be paying thousands and some houses like AOII or APHI are full of mean girls who bully you which is also "considered" hazing. Non-panhals are growing in Canada over panhal imo but they just don't have houses really

Speaking as a panhal sister..having a house isn’t everything there are campuses in Canada with panhals who don’t have houses like Waterloo, Carleton, UOttawa, Guelph, and I can go on and on. One of our chapters in Ontario doesn’t have a house and comes to our campus sometimes because they don’t have that. Panhal did rush online again this year when non panhals did in person events.

Panhal is more expensive especially if you have a house and most people can’t afford that. Which I love my sisterhood and our house, but I can also understand in this economy that not everyone can afford that plus tuition. One of my friends wanted to rush but when I told her the range of dues and fees she said after working two jobs and with other expenses she couldn’t afford it. I hope one day she can join through our alum initiate program. Anyways..

Have some non panhals been hazy yes..no doubt. DPD was awful but they are basically a local and are shut down. KBG and DFN are non panhals and definitely don’t haze, I’ve had nothing but good experiences with some of their members. DFN came out to our philanthropies a while back and I know of their girls is on national council which they keep pretty good standards. KBG just did a philanthropy event with the zetes and also have a national board too with strict rules.

We are a Greek community I’m honestly tired of all the division in it. If someone wants to join a non panhal or panhal that’s their choice. We all find our letters and we don’t have to make one less than the other. Truly we should always call out hazing, but accusing these nice sororities and judging them because they have houses is absolutely stupid. Some of the panhal houses aren’t even nice and are full of bugs same with the frats.

Also are we running around the fact that sororities are always held to a higher standard when it comes to hazing but we turn blind eyes to frats?? Don’t talk.. we all know frat pledges and sorority pledges do not have the same definition of hazing. We never talk about it, if frats were held to sorority standards or even npc standards of hazing I bet many houses wouldn’t be around.

Greek life is about being within the Greek community. This whole rank page is full of hate when we should really figure out how to build our community stronger when the city of Toronto wants us gone.
