smartest fraternities

by: Rushee

I'm a freshman engineering major from a private school who will be rushing in the spring. Ive been to a couple of SAE parties but it didn't really seem like my scene and I didn't fit in well with the guys. I was just wondering which fraternities have the smartest guys that are still cool, I'm pretty laid back so tier isn't that important as long as they are Top/Middle.

As a whole many of the top teir fraternities arent the brightest, however all of them have some really smart people and engineers you are likely to fit in with

KA, Fiji, Beta.

I've heard Pike too, what are they like?

KA is not known for being smart at all, they pretty much consistently come out in the bottom half of fraternity GPAs, and while Beta has a reputation for being smart for some reason, they're usually not very far ahead. Fiji routinely performs well and has a lot of smart guys. So does Pike, but it also could be argued that that's all Pike really has going for them since they're barely considered a middle tier fraternity

Really it's all kind of BS. Fraternity grades shift by a wide margin each semester, largely depending on the majors of new pledge classes. For example, a fraternity that happened to bid a bunch of guys in easy majors and was listed as a top performer one semester might bid a bunch of engineers the next semester and sink to nearly the bottom. Also, a lot of fraternities fail to submit their grades each semester lmao.

Also, Pike just had a high GPA last semester. Historically they've been just a little better than average. Beta actually tends to be pretty high up there GPA-wise, with a few rough semesters. Fiji is consistently up there. KA is usually right around or right below average.

I thought Pike consistently does pretty well, they had they highest GPA for the 2014-2015 academic school year

No they didn't. Spring 14 went to Delt. Fall 14 to Beta. And Spring 15 to Sigma Nu. Pike placed 8th, 6th, and 2nd for those semesters

KA and Fiji post the names, majors, and hometowns/high schools of their actives. They have a lot of Finance, Accounting, Economics, and Engineering majors. These aren't easy majors. Of course their GPA would be lower.

And Beta doesn't do anything else other than talk about themselves and study so...

Almost every upper tier fraternity consists of primarily engineering, finance, accounting, and economics majors. Not really a valid excuse

Yes, and KA and Fiji are upper tier fraternities... That's my point...

I mean, SAE and Sigma Chi are known for taking Blinn guys. Not really "smart" are they?

I think his point was simply that if Beta SigEp and Delt are mainly engineering, accounting, finance, etc. (not mentioning SAE cause I feel the same doesn't apply to them, though they're definitely still upper tier) KA and Fiji can't claim they're GPAs are lower because of those majors, when everyone else they're competing with is on the same playing field. That being said, Fiji doesn't event need to bother cause they're usually on top grade wise

Yes, try to argue a point about intelligence and then promptly misuse their/they're/there.

Grammar is one of the fundamental elements of showing that you're smart, or at least, well-educated. So whatever, who can trust what you're saying?

If you want Blinn brothers, join in with Delt.

Based off the actual running average GPA for each major fraternity for the relevant range:

Top (in order)
-Fiji
-Beta
-Kappa Sigma
-Pi Kappa Alpha
All are consistently above average, typically with a semesterly chapter GPA around 3.0 - 3.1

Average (in order)
-Sigma Nu
-Delta Tau Delta
-Kappa Alpha Order
-Sigma Phi Epsilon
All are consistently average. Typically with a semester GPA of about 2.9, sometimes much higher or lower

Below Average: (in order)
-Sigma Alpha Epsilon
-Sigma Chi
Consistently below average. Typically with a semester GPA of about 2.8. Sometimes much lower but rarely much higher

Significantly underperforming:
-PiKap
Usually dead last in grades or close to it, typically at 2.4 - 2.6

Yeah, I mean realistically the other fraternities kind of don't exist in comparison. But even then, most the bottom tiers have pretty bad academics in comparison to the bigger fraternities, even though the opposite is commonly thought. With the exception of like ATO and Delta Sig, most of them are pretty much always at the bottom portion of grade reports
