Ok I’ll say it - don’t make it awkward
by: For PNMsPNMs if you are commenting on here that you had awkward convos with a house, ask yourself honestly how YOU did in that conversation. I know actives are expected to sell our chapter to you, but if we ask you questions to try to get conversation going, for God’s sake give more than a one word answer!!! Please remember that we need to get to know you just like you need to get to know us. You need to do your part to uphold the convo too or else it is going to be awkward! I feel like sometimes it is just me talking because I’m getting nothing from the PNM. Sadly, we will be cutting some of you because the convo WAS totally awkward— BECAUSE OF YOU!!! Also remember if you are rude to a house that you don’t want, you can be dropped from recruitment.

Nah. I’m a good rusher and so I pick up girls every single round. I’m a senior. I have had PLENTY of girls that were difficult to talk to and awkward. But I guarantee you that they never walked away from the convo saying “that was awkward” bc I filled the gap and compensated for them when necessary. I made them feel comfortable to talk as much or as little as they wanted. This falls on YOU. Unfortunately, some girls clearly just aren’t as good of rushers or conversationalist. But at the end of the day, the pnm is way more nervous and vulnerable. YOU are in charge of the convo and you’re the one representing something that only you know about. Do better. Don’t blame the pnms bc you’re not a good enough conversationalist or empathizer to hold conversations with all the girls rushing. Clearly your rush team hasn’t done a good job of getting that across to y’all and I wouldn’t be surprised if your houses do bad in rush. And then you blame other houses for cheating or pnms for being basic and wanting a top house.

That’s exactly the problem though. It is hard to get to know a girl if YOU have to fill in all the gaps. I think we know how to rush thank you very much but PNMs should know that they need to put effort in. I know you’ve probably had girls like that too and I don’t care how great a conversationalist you think you are, if a girl isn’t giving you anything back, it’s going to be rough. I think this is a PSA that SOME PNMs need to see. For those that I’ve rushed that have been like this, I always score them low. Sure, as a PNM, you might be uncomfortable or an introvert but in recruitment you gotta put that aside & fake it till you make it. I always think these girls will be terrible rushers the next year if it’s this bad as a PNM, too. By the way, I’m also a senior.

Same. Preach it sister. I can talk to a brick walk. You're in charge, run the conversation and get them engaged. This falls on us.

I mean you’re not wrong. If I have to fill ALL the gaps usually they’ll get a lower score. But not always. Sometimes you can tell a girl is really cool but shy. That’s also why it’s important for your chapter to match girls well. If you’re constantly getting awkward convos that’s on you and your matching team. I’ve never had an awkward convo only awkward girls. But ya I see what you’re saying they risk getting scored lower when they talk less. But that’s just the name of the game someone has to get cut.

Some of them aren’t being rude, they are just socially awkward or don’t understand that they need to do their part to uphold the conversation
