sorority dues for each sorority?

by: Curious

Honestly it’s like no one likes to talk about the costs. I am thinking of rushing next year when I transfer but I want to know how much dues are. I actually really like ADPi, AOPi, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Gamma Phi Beta so I am most likely going to join one of those for. If someone can give me a honest estimate of what it will cost the first semester and what it would cost to be active every semester after that, that would be great. I just want to know so I can save up enough.

The first semester is the most expensive, as you probably know. I would budget for about $1700-$1800 for dues themself and then another $300-$500 for other expenses (t-shirts, pan events, other things like that). As an active, dues are about $1000-$1200. Hope this helps

Yes thank you! This does help! Would this be the same for most sororities? Also I do have another question. Do you know if there’s an age limit to pledge a sorority? I’m going to be 26 next year and that sounds old to a lot of people but I don’t look any older than 22. I haven’t had the tradition college experience but when I get to A&M I would like to. I don’t expect to live in any sorority houses but as I finish my last two years of college i’d like to make the most of it. Just looking for an opinion that’s all.

AOII new member dues were around $2500-almost $3000 this year because it's so new and they're trying to get a house, which won't happen anytime soon.Personally, the cost outweighed the pros of it- and Greek life in general tbh- and I dropped last semester.
Women's orgs really do give you the same benefits for a fraction of the cost. People will argue that Greek life is more recognizable on a resume, etc, but just by going to A&M you will instantly be recognizable.

At 26, you are not likely to receive a bid from any chapter. I’m not trying to be negative but you are facing a tremendous uphill battle for a bid. You’re going to be 8 years older than most of your pledge class and 4-5 years older than the exec board. Other than being a college student, you’ll have very little in common socially/ emotionally with the actives and other pledges. I know you feel like you missed out on a traditional college experience and joining a sorority, but just think about how much you’ve grown and changed since you graduated high school. I don’t think you would make many close friends in any house being that much older. A&M is a pretty traditional campus as far as Greek Life, it’s not like UT-Arlington or some other small branch schools that might be open to non-traditional members. Sorry, probably not the answer you were wanting....

That’s okay! I appreciate your honesty. I think I still want to try though. I’ve talked to a few different people and have gotten a range of answers. If anything I’m going to do informal recruitment because that will be less stressful. And who knows I might change my mind and decide not to go Greek by next year but i’d like to prepare myself before then. I just think there’s a small part of me that tells me I should go for it otherwise i’d regret it. I’m also looking into Alpha Epsilon Phi which is also a Panhellenic sorority but they do their own recruitment differently which I like. I don’t know why people on here don’t talk about them. They seem like nice girls.

Would age 20 be too old?

20 isn't too old!! Your time would be cut a little short, but a few chapters still bid juniors!!

If you really want a shot at Greek life, you need to go through fall formal rush. That way each house will have the opportunity to meet you. Definitely get recs for ALL and I hope you’re transfering with a near 4.0 + campus involvement / leadership on your resume.

Even if you sign up as interested for informal, the chapters are under NO obligation to invite you to any events. Informal events are all private and by invitation only. Formal rush means you will at least be invited to every single house for open house round. Even though I strongly advise against rushing as a 26 year old, I would hate for you to skip formal only to received zero invitations to informal (or have a fluke year where every house makes quota / at total and there isn’t even a house eligible for informal). You can always sign up for informal fall if formal doesn’t work out.

they don’t talk about aephi much because they are connected to a specific religion/culture so if you aren’t connected to that in some way they probably won’t reach out to you for their recruitment if that makes sense. So if you are a part of that background you should email them but otherwise that probably won’t work out

You can always join women’s orgs

You should absolutely still try and participate in recruitment. If she's excited to join, age isn't going to matter because you're likely wanting the full sorority/college experience that most have at a younger age. You should get to experience it to the fullest. You'll definitely still make some friends in there, just probably with the 21-and-up-crowd, which is still totally ok. I'd recommend you really keep an open mind in regards to considering all your sorority options and honestly you should work with a rush coach so you have the best chances possible. Either way, at least you know you went for what you wanted if that's what your heart's set on. :)

Some sorority’s have much higher dues than others I think like zta and aopi have the highest but I’m not 100%sure. During formal recruitment on sisterhood day the houses should give you a sheet with estimated dues etc

Each sorority has a different way of doing dues! Some might be cheaper but then you have to pay for each date party, sisterhood event, or big/little separate and it adds up to the same or more than those that pay everything up front that might seem to have more expensive dues. Also some sororities fine like crazy so your dues end up being hundreds of dollars more because of random fines.

Check out the panhel website for dues info. I'm not sure its still there but last year there was info for each chapter and the costs were broken down by year and semester which was very helpful.
