Thursday is crosscut day.

Choose carefully. The sorry one's will suck you back in.

'Maximize your options' is a bunch of BS.

A bunch of good girls came to A&M with goal of joining a sorority and didn't get into a good house because of a sorry ass system.

There is no reason for the administration to limit the size of pledge classes for sororities. This is what RFM does.

It is a flawed system that attempts to make all the houses better by forcing good girls to houses that are failing miserably.

It simple does not work.

If you didn't receive a bid or walked away because you got pushed to sorry houses, know that it is because of a lousy system. A&M should be ashamed of this failure and take appropriate action.

Not true. You cannot “cross cut” yourself. You’re either high enough on a chapter’s invite list or you’re not. Honestly, how you rank the chapters doesn’t really matter because at this point, most girls don’t have a full invitation list and you’re going back to whomever invited you back. I mean, don’t rank a house you don’t like as a 1 because you think it will increase your odds of getting a a bid but the best thing to do is just let your rush happen. 95% of girls will end up getting a bid to a chapter they either love or will grow to love if they give it a chance.

When you're forced to 'maximize your options' you leave yourself open to be forced to an inferior house. You could be ranked high enough on a good house to receive a bid, but you get 'stolen' by the sorry house because they ranked you higher. It can and does happen.

And it is cross cutting yourself, because no one wants to join a sorry sorority. (See bid day 'no shows')

The whole point of this sorry ass system is to achieve parity. That means pushing girls to sorry houses.

'just let rush happen'? What a joke. This person obviously works for the administration (or is in a sorry sorority).

‘Chapter carry figures’ penalize good chapters for being good to give each chapter a chance. And that is complete BS.

RFM is jacked up.

The best chapters under invite—therefore they won’t be forced PNMS they don’t want. The 'plus list' is not mandatory.

RFM doesn't like this because it lowers quota.

Too bad.

That is NOT how Bid matching works AT ALL so please stop spreading lies. A lower tier chapter cannot “steal” your bid.

Each night, the chapters submit a list of the PNM’s they wish to invite back. Then the PNM’s ranks are used to determine their party lists- if PNM’s #1’s all invite her back, she goes to those parties. If 2 of her #1’s didn’t invite her back, then the computer searches to see if her #2 and #3 did. And so forth.

For bid matching, the computer system will attempt to match the PNM with her top choice up to 3 times before she is matched with her second choice:
1. The computer sees if pnm’s #1 choice had her on their top bid list. If they do, she’s a match and gets a bid.

2. If she’s on their second list, the computer will try to match her AGAIN with her #1 choice. If she is #20 on the 2nd list and they fill to quota by #17, she won’t get a bid (yet). If she is #20 and they have to go to #24 to make quota, she gets a bid. It does NOT matter if the other chapter she Preffed had her on their first list. It’s not part of the equation at all.

3. If her top choice makes quota before her name is listed AND she maximized her options, she still has a chance to be added to her #1 choice as a Quota Additon. If she maximized her options and both houses make quota and are of roughly equal chapter size, she can still be matched with her #1 choice. If she suicided, she would be ineligible for QA and would go bidless.

The ONLY way you get your 2nd choice is if the 1st choice chapter fills to quota and both chapters are not considered equals when placing QA’s. Then she would go to her 2nd choice. Almost every chapter gets at least a few QA’s each year so that shows that there are girls who don’t Bid match with Kappa or ChiO or DG who still get placed with their 1st choices.

Something like 70-80% of PNM’s are placed with their 1st choice.

So tonight is a 'party list' night. ‘Chapter carry figures’ are extremely low for good houses. So if you have 3 good houses and your 2 #1's don't invite you back, you can get cut by your #2 ranked house even if they had you on their flex list because you didn't rank them #1. Hence the name--cross cut.

Guess what, you get invited back to the sorry house that invites EVERYBODY back. And why? because RFM pushes people to sorry houses.

You'll be stuck with a house you 'will grow to love if (you) give it a chance'. Her words. Freakin' BS, huh?

BUT WAIT. There's more.

For the bid match BS. What the hell is a quota addition you might ask? Great question. The RFM system sets quota really low. They do this so they can start pushing girls to the lesser houses.

It happens.

Why do some houses end up with 100 pledges and some less than 70?

by: Wrong again

That’s now how Bid matching works either. Quota IS the number of PNM’s with a Pref invitation divided by the number of chapters on campus. Panhellenic and/or RFM do not set an artificially lower number.

Quota additions are PNM’s who maximized their options but weren’t high enough on either chapter’s bid list to get a bid during primary bid matching. Since the maximized, they are manually added to one of the chapter’s bid lists as QA’s. Before RFM, these are ALL PNM’s who would not have gotten a bid at all and would have received the dreaded “call” on Bid Day. So if 100 girls are QA’s that’s 100 girls who wouldn’t have received any bid before RFM.

By definition, quota IS an artificial number. Quota limits the maximum number. RFM does set this number and it is low. Why? It allows good girls to be pushed to sorry houses. The goal is parity and this is how they ‘accomplish’ it.

So if there is a maximum number set (quota), then why/how is it later exceeded? Why are ‘quota additions’ even necessary? What’s more, how is it part of the predetermined process to EXCEED that maximum. This makes no sense. Again, this allows good girls to be pushed to sorry houses. A “good” girl gets “manually added’ to a chapters bid list—and guess what, they get added sorry house.

Get rid of quota and let the chapters decide how many they want to invite. Let the chapters decide, not some system that is beyond unfair.

The reason so many drop is because they have an inflated idea of their own self-importance. If they are high enough on the invite list of houses they like, they get them back. If those houses don't like them as well... then they make up some crappy excuse and drop out. I'm sorry to have to tell you, but if you're as good as you think you are, the top houses will have you on their top list. If they don't, you don't get an invite back. Most girls recognize that they can be happy in several different houses and look at their new options. The hateful girls (like most of the ones in this thread) decide that they're too good for the houses that like them and drop out. Somehow they missed the fact that they'd always be on the outside looking in.

Highly desired houses are forced to release more PNM's than those that are less desired, and this is based on statistics and how PNM's preference each house after each round. Houses like XO and Kappa are forced to release about 50% of PNM's after round 1 where another house typically releases significantly less than they do (this is so the PNM can maximize her options). As the week goes on, they have less PNM's coming through their house, and other houses have more than them. By the time you get to skit and preference rounds, those other houses have party sizes can sometimes be 25-50% larger than they are across the street. That has often forced some houses to add more parties to a round (example in the past: 3 pref parties stretched into 5). The premise is nice, but at the same time, the PNM realizes that all the "top" houses are done for the day after the 'normal' amount of parties have taken place, and the other houses don't get to do MSS until later since parties run later. Enter dark parties. Dark parties are when an entire HOUSE sits out a round, just like a PNM does if she doesn't have a full list of parties. So now, CPC says EVERY house will be on a 5 party schedule, even though some might only need 3. Someone like XO might only hold their pref parties for party 1, 2 and 5, where other houses would hold all 5. This makes it less obvious that other houses have more PNM's than the other houses and allow chapters to start decorating and MSS at the same time, whereas other houses were starting post-party duties 2-3 hours after "top houses." And with that I'll disclose that's a bad example because this year they are going from 3 pref parties to 2, but hopefully that makes some kind of sense.

There is just so much bad information in here and every single year the same troll comes in and tries to talk about cross cutting and how bad RFM is. And every single time it's been debunked but the rabid troll is back.

On the off-chance that a PNM is reading this - RFM is a good thing, and if there was no RFM, you'd probably be bidless instead of getting a bid at a less competitive chapter. There is no such thing as cross cutting. With or without RFM, if a top chapter didn't want you, you would never have a chance there. Before RFM, you would have been released altogether. With RFM at least you have a chance of getting another look at another house.

So so so much terrible info in this thread with the same fool replying to themselves. Thankfully any real PNM has a recruitment counselor to talk to and not spread anymore BS.

And going to 2 houses for Pref is a nationwide NPC policy. If this troll were in a real sorority, they would know that.

Okay, I don't have a dog in this hunt. But both sides are actually correct on some things. And the system is definitely flawed.

Google NPC release figure method. If anyone cares, this will get you up to speed.

Unfortunately, recruitment counselors know pretty much nothing about the process and will spit off talking points in an attempt to shut you up.

I've been trying to resist bumping this train wreck of a thread, but as it's already at the top because this idiot replies to herself in order to bump it. But it's seriously the SAME INSANE PERSON replying to themselves. Check last year, there's also another thread ranting and raving and getting debunked over and over again. Someone is very mentally deranged and obsessed with RFM that they do not understand at all.

But what does happen to the girl who is going to the theee top houses and a legacy to one of them. Her number four house is a really good one too. If her legacy drops her tonight and the others don’t have her on their top list because they have to cut so many, she is seriously screws. Seems like she could end up with only her very bottom ones back. That is awful.

By: Ok
by: And

Seems like lots of houses won’t be willing to ask her back if her legacy is a top one bc they assume she is going that and they have so few invites to offer. Awful system for top PNMs and top houses. Great for bottom ones and lower. If she doesn’t drop out bottom chapters get a great girl. However, she probably doesn’t really fit in so will drop out and the Greek system lost a great girl. Terrible.

This is why I recommend not listing your legacies anywhere except the form that goes to your legacy house. Most girls are a legacy somewhere so it’s not a huge deal but for the girls with sitting sisters and/or cousins at TAMU or who are double and triple legacies to one house, it does nothing but limit their options during rush to have every other chapter on campus know that.

By: Me

by: How about

So you should lie about being a legacy? How about a system that doesn't make it so lying is advantageous.

How about don't limit the number of girls the top houses can invite back and/or bid?

That would solve everything.

Make this change and good girls who are legacies won't be shunned by other top houses and won't be at a disadvantage.
