bids

by: howdy

is anyone who rushes and doesn't single pref guaranteed a bid? I'm nervous about not getting a bid, but I'm not picky about which one I get a bid from.

Yes, you will be told when ranking after your pref parties that as long as you “maximize your options” (i.e. rank both sororities you went to on pref) you are guaranteed a bid

As long as you continue to maximize your options you will have at least 1 house on pref.

This is not true. NO ONE is guaranteed to make it to Pref Night. PNMs can maximize their options and still not be invited back to any houses the following round. It doesn’t happen a ton here but it DOES happen.

If you are invited to at least one house for Pref + you maximize options on your Pref card, you ARE then guaranteed a bid.

This is very confusing. How is it that if you maximize your options on pref night that you’re guaranteed a bid but if you only choose one that you’re not guaranteed? What if both houses do not want you after pref night? Or are they forced to accept you if you maximize your options even if they do not want you?

They are forced to accept you. The guarantee bid is supposed to be a reward for listing both houses you have because if you list only one house, that is disrespectful to the other house. Besides, suiciding is an "all or nothing" point of view, so why should you get the benefit of a guarantee?

It is rare that someone is at the bottom of both of her Pref houses, but unless she did something really dumb, she will be a Quota Addition at the house with the lowest total probably (or lowest PC at the time).
