recruitment

by: .....

I was a transfer sophomore rushing with an ok gpa due to a bad first semester. I was from a very small juco with very little extra curriculars to get involved with. When I went through recruitment I didn't get any letters and knew no one. I didn't see myself in the houses I had left so I dropped. Would it be worth it to try again when I'm a junior if I get recs, more involvement since I have so many options now, hopefully make some friends and maybe connections, and obviously a better gpa since I have a fresh start at tamu?

No, because now you have a reputation and many houses "that you could see yourself in" have a once-dropped-always-dropped policy. Also in those houses that "you could see yourself in" they rarely take juniors. Maybe 1.-2 Maybe none. And they always go to girls with stelllar extracurriculars (we're talking really high up people in SGA, MSC orgs, Big Event, honors programs) who many girls in the sorority have been friends with forever.

By your junior year, you should just hang out with your group of friends and try to meet new people in orgs and your smaller classes. New Member activities are geared for Freshman

What houses have a once dropped always dropped policy?

Pretty much all of them. And the ones you had left, you dropped and quit Recruitment. So they are likely to not want you back. I agree with the later comments about trying to do COB. But you had better start getting to know girls bc honestly, the likelihood of extending a bid to a Junior at this point isn't great.

Unless a pnm is rushing with an absolute stellar resume (high GPA, prestigious activities, connections, impeccable recs, and a great personality to boot), pnms need to be open to EVERY house at A&M if they truly want to be in a sorority here.

Unfortunately, you made the choice that you'd rather not be Greek at all than join one of the houses that was interested in YOU. I'm sad that you didn't think you'd "fit in" with any of the 200+ members in the houses that were still inviting you back. Tiers and rankings seem to matter during rush to some people, but the reality is that the sorority experience is pretty much the same in every single house.

No, I don't think you'll have a more successful outcome as a junior unless you rock a 4.0, become bff's with the rush chairmen of top houses, and become a Fish Camp Co-Chair while also making the Aggie Dance Team.

If you do some soul searching and find that you are open to considering every house, put your name on the COB list at the Greek Life office and be open to any calls you get this year inviting you to a COB event.

I had a friend who did the same thing her freshman year and came back and rushed her sophomore year(this year) and liked her outcome. I don't know if it would be different for you since you would be a junior but you never know. If you do decide to rush again I would definitely recommend getting your gpa up, getting involved in a lot, and trying to make connections like you said. You may not get in one of the best houses but I think you still might have a chance.

Re-rushing as a sophomore is COMPLETELY different than rushing as a junior. Junior bids are not common as juniors don't have much in common with the majority of their pledge class and often don't get that involved. Most junior bids go to VERY close friends of actives- even more so in the houses with competitive rush.

We're not being negative, we're giving realistic advice.
