regrets about recruitment?

by: Questioning

I can't be the only girl going through recruitment that is noticing how poorly this is going. None of the houses here are "real". Is it bad to have regrets about this? I just don't want to waste my money when the return seems small and irrelevant. Idk guys just feeling confused.

Here is some advice. You've only been to each house once, right? You don't get to meet every girl in the chapter this week. Pay attention to the girls going into the house with you, who you're sitting and waiting with. As the week moves on, you'll start seeing who your potential PC is. Going to the houses is more for you to learn about each house, what philanthropies they support, and to get a general "vibe." It's normal for it to feel fake and phony at the beginning, and honestly, you won't feel very "part" of your sorority until you start doing things. Living in the house, work week, Recruitment, retreats, date parties, formals.....all of those things are when you realize why you joined. These ladies will become your best friends in your adult years. You're not going to get that this week. Right now it's about feeling a vibe or a fit. That's why the wise ones say not to worry about how a house ranks. It's about where you feel like you belong and vice versa. Hang in there!

Also. The first two days everyone goes to every house for a pretty short amount of time. Let's face it, it's all a little phony. You are basically seeing the inside of the houses for the first time and what everyone looks like. If you felt like you really "knew" the girls or felt "so at home" you'd be a little cray cray.

Rush week is NOT real life. Real sorority life is when your sisters are there when you're bawling your eyes out over a breakup or a death in your family or not getting the internship or job you had your heart set on. My best memories of living in the house are the most basic things like always having someone to watch tv with or raising the pantry after getting home on Saturday night or having someone to run up to Sonic with you while you're cramming for exams. The date parties and Greek events are definitely fun but the most fun is having a built in support system. Heck, for advices work week is 1000% better than rush week because it's pure 24/7 bonding time. You'll find out at some point in college that even the girls who you barely know in your chapter will do anything for you because you share letters.

This week is all about the chapters and pnms trying to figure out where everyone belongs. Try to follow your heart every day but also trust that the chapters are inviting and releasing pnms based on who they feel is the best fit for their sisterhood- and I don't mean who is the prettiest or most successful but whose personalities compliment and add to the chapter.

It's not a perfect week and it's not a perfect system. Just try to navigate this week with that in mind.

If you are having regrets than just drop. Your going to end up in a bottom tier house anyway.

That's rude and uncalled for. How about building up Greek life instead of tearing others down.
