If girls are only able to pref two houses this year (used to be three) does that mean there are less bids going out?

It shouldn't impact quota at all because quota is the number of pnms attending pref round divided by the number of chapters. Something like 2% of pnm's who attended 3 pref parties and listed all 3 chapters on their bid card were matching to their 3rd choice while 98% matched to their first or second choice. If those pnm's had only attended 2 pref parties, they would have matched to one of those houses as a quota addition instead of getting their 3rd choice.

3 pref is nice idea in theory but not really necessary. A lot of campuses have gone from 2 pref to 3 and back to 2 because the stats were similar.

So if I have 2 houses at pref, but only want 1 of them (def not the other) is it better to maximize and rate both or select only the 1?

That's up to you. It is what you would call "suiciding." Personally, i would put both. Why would you not want the other house? You have to remember that Recruitment is only one week. Being a part of a sorority is a lifetime. I loved all the houses I had at Pref. I just went with my gut and ranked them as best as I could. I got my top pick, but I know I would have been just as happy at my last choice. Have faith that it will all work out!

To the above comment, maximizing your options is no longer a thing at a&m. Too many girls are coming through. No one is gaunteed a bid to a house even if they maximize.

It's right there in the 2017 Recruitment Guide that pnms who maximize their options are guaranteed a bid. Stop spreading rumors.

no not at all! if you have a house left on pref night you are guaranteed a bid from that house.
