Do we have more sororities that UT now? So I was thinking of transferring to UT because it had a better program for my particular major (sorry I still love y'all) and I did a whole bunch of stalking and the sororities a) don't seem that much better at all (almost worse because they don't seem to be on social media as much) and b) it looks like we have 13 and they have 12. What do you guys think? I think our Greek community is growing at a crazy fast rate but maybe that's just me

We still have fewer houses. And let's not kid ourselves, our Greek Life isn't "better." UT doesn't need social media because they don't need (or frankly, want) to advertise. They want to keep it fairly small and exclusive. It's smaller in terms of numbers, but their parties and prestige are on another level. I prefer ours because it's more inclusive and feels more like a community with having all of our houses together, but UT/SMU/TCU are the dominant Greek Life players in Texas.

I would agree with this but I think A&M is a pretty dominant player too.

I can see an argument for UT's Greek life but smu and tcu? I don't think so lol. Way to small and easy to get into. Also, the only thing UT does better than A&M is frats. A&M Greek life is held back by how small our frats are and how bad their houses are. The sororities are SO much better than the frats and compete with any others in Texas and most any others in the SEC. Greek life as whole does not because of our fraternities. I Don't know what to do to make this better though because there's just not a lot of guys at A&M that want to rush. And until more guys come and rush our frats will stay tiny in comparison to our sororities.

SMU and TCU are in no way better than A&M. The top sororities at A&M are similar to the top sororities at UT, TCU, and SMU. What I will say UT does better than A&M is that they have a strong middle tier. Much better than our middle tier. Our middle tier needs to do better and we need to start uplifting the middle more to make our entire system better. Our bottom sororities are just like UTs.

If I'm not mistaken, A&M is the only school where you can get entirely dropped form rush. I have friends at tcu and smu. Their Greek life is smaller and much easier to rush into. All you have to be is rich/pretty at both schools. Whereas a&m and ut both look towards much more than that, such as grade, reputation, personality, involvement, etc.

Come on, let's not kid ourselves. Only 2 sororities here could even compete with the top 6 at UT. And there is no equivalent to the history, legacy, and outrageous arrogance of PKT. Only Kappa here can come sort of close.

I have friends who go to TCU and SMU, and their campuses are smaller and generally wealthier. Greek Life (especially the fraternities) dominate and dictate social life around there. I have friends who go there too, and they say that school is so easy and small, people get really invested in social life and Greek stuff. I don't know what world you live in, but if you think that an easy recruitment = "all you have to be is rich/pretty" then I think we live in totally different worlds. And A&M is guaranteed recruitment if you maximize your options all the way through pref.

You are actually wrong. A&M is not a garunteed recruitment. Last year we officially had too many girls rushing to garuntee and as a result we will no longer be a garunteed recruitment school. Maximizing your options will not get you a house. These other schools however still opporate that way. And being garunteed a bid for being rich/ pretty is the exact definition of an easy rush. You litterally just have to walk through the door and they'll bid you if you are those things. Whereas it takes that plus a lot more to get into sorities like Tridelt and kappa at A&M. Tridelt and kappa competes with PKT at Texas. And Tridelt, kappa, Zeta and DG compete with any sorority at tcu or smu because Tridelt and kappa look at everything and zeta and dg also heavily rely on looks to rush. Soooo, we have a mix of both "all around" sororities and "looks" sororities.

So I transferred here from TCU so I think I can speak a bit about the differences. For one thing, no one except for maybe nursing students take school that seriously at TCU. Lots of kids with not-so-great grades and a lot of homeschoolers. LOTS of parties, despite it being a Christian college. Fraternities throw the best parties, and sororities get preferential treatment, so I'd definitely say that Greeks at that school have more prestige. I went through recruitment like everyone else and was able to transfer to my chapter here at A&M because back at TCU it's such a bubble.

I knew a few people at SMU too, and I'd say it's pretty similar to TCU, except SMU gets more wealthy California and East Coast/New England people.
