should you be in a sorority?
by: PNMs
If you're on this site because you want to know what recruitment has in store for you, you're probably taken aback with the sheer meanness you've seen on this site. You may be wondering if this life is for you. Of course you can talk to your high school friends, your mom's sorority friends, or research on the internet to find out what it's like. I didn't research. I just went into it blindly.
After I accepted a bid and then dropped out during new member period, I found an OU Daily article written by a sorority girl about life in this same house house. It really opened my eyes.
You can find it here: You can read it here: www.oudaily.com/opinion/column-are-you-sure-joinin g-the-greek-system-is-right/article_207f9f8b-b98c- 520b-b1cc-1d80e036ba02.html NOTE: you need to remove any spaces if they show up when this gets posted.
As for me, I didn't join another sorority because of the type of things described in this article. Now I realize that not every house is like that. Maybe only that one house. I have good friends that are very happy in there houses and I almost wish I were in a house too. Oh well, it's a little too late.
But all in all, I'm glad my eyes were opened to what some houses will do to get new members. This house will probably flood this site with a lot of mean comments, blaming this house or that house for posting this article.
But the truth is it was posted by someone not in any house at OU.

Stop all the guessing about who posted this and discuss the merits of the article. It appeared originally in the Daily. When I read it I though that some of the stuff she complained about was ordinary, like coordinating clothes for rush and making sure everyone looked their best. I'm a marketing major so that doesn't seem bad. The bad things to me were the lack of sisterhood and their insecurity about their place on campus. Oh yeah, and the race thing of course.

For a more recent look at this house there is this. "Alpha Phi dirty rushed my best friend and I and both of us cut them. A few girls took me up to a separate room during house tour day and cried to me about how badly they wanted me and it freaked me out." And yes, that's against the rules for recruitment and they could be disciplined if a complaint had been lodged. Maybe they won't do it again if they know people will tell.

I am friends with one girl and she hates it because everyone is so negative. It makes sense if the one posting all the negativity on this website is an example. It doesn't surprise me that they're dirty rushing too. In fact, I see this advertising on greekrank as a form of dirty rushing.

I too would be interested in what (if anything) has changed since the article was written. I keep checking this comment to see if the Alpha Phis have responded but they just blame the posting on one house. (Especially since the op said she's not in a house.) It's strange that their focus is on who posted. If it were my house I'd try to clear up any misconceptions instead of whining about the article being posted.

I'm still checking this to see if Alpha Phi is going to stick up for themselves. They don't like it when people say that they're good at trying to tear down other houses, so I'd like to see them building up their own. It makes me wonder why they don't respond about why they think their house is great.

GPB posts this article about every six months because they hTe the fact APhi is the much better house. People are tired of GPB always authoring and pushing up negative discussions about APhi and/or discussions that rank GPB way to high. Basically people are just tired of the way GPB behaves.
