let's get real - most important question here

by: Rush

Who's the funnest/who has the best parties? I'm interested in sororities but you can throw frats in for the boys.

This is kind of a stupid question because all the sororities have parties and they're all fun (by funnest I assume you mean most fun.) It's totally up to you whether you have fun - you need to go with a guy that's fun and make friends with girls in your house that are fun. It also depends on whether your idea of fun is getting black out drunk or just have a good time hanging out and dancing. Beware of anyone who tells you that XYZ sorority has better parties than ABC sorority. You have no idea what their standards are.

The bottom line is that it doesn't matter. You need to go through recruitment and find girls that you love - the fun will follow. If you choose a house based on what other people on greekrank say, you'll likely be unhappy.

Excellent advice.

You probably won't be going to the parties given by other sororities. Girls from all houses invited to the fraternities' parties, though, so there will be plenty to go to. I agree that you're in charge of your own response to a party. How do you expect anyone else to tell you if you're going to have fun?

The other colleges I had applied to have "party" sororities and "boring" sororities and while they always said it's what you make of it, some were definitely more known for it. I assumed it'd be the same here!

No. they. don't. Be sensible. How do you know that the standards for "fun" or "boring" are YOUR standards? You don't. Plus, as you've been told above, parties are only the smallest part of the sorority experience. If you're basing which house you choose on other people's idea of whether their parties are fun or boring, you're headed for lots of problems, girlie.

Ya. They. Do. Some sororities mix more than others, maybe not here according to you mental GR lurkers. Most people going into school, especially people wanting to go Greek are interested in the parties. Sorry, it's the truth.

Okay, you don't live in our state so you have no connections to our sororities. You aren't in college so you have never been in a sorority in any state. You've listened to some gossip and want to believe it. Do you know how stupid you sound? You are trying to tell actual sorority girls about sororities when you're in frikkin high school! You are looney tunes, honey. Bless your poor misguided heart.

I know plenty about mizzou's greek system seeing as a good majority of my closest friends are actives there. You guys are such negative lunatics on here, I know there's great aspects to your Greek life but y'all make it look real bad the way you post on greek rank. For the sake of proving my point I posted the exact same thing on mizzou's wall and no one thought this was a weird question. They even put several rankings in response. So point proven you guys are just miserable and need to find some hobbies aside from ripping apart incoming freshmen on an online forum. (Reevaluate your life there for a second... Think about it.)

You know nothing, high school girl. Maybe some Missouri mom took pity on you and answered your stupid question. I'm not sure you're ready for college if you're just looking for the "funnest" house. Your question has been answered here and you just want to keep arguing. Well, be my guest. Just don't expect anyone to repeat the answers you're already been given. If that makes you think less of Oklahoma, too bad. Here we don't go around insulting people from other states and pretending to know stuff we don't. If that's what you're looking for, you're not going to find it here.

Since no one answered your question I will. A lot of people would consider the party girl houses: aphi, XO, DG. What I, and many others, believe constitutes a party house is a house that's known for having a lot of girls that like to party, and can sometimes get a little wild. Some of the girls won't have the best reps just because of that, but that's not what you should judge the house on. The more academic houses are: tri delt, gamma phi, theta.

Thanks! I appreciate it :) I have a great GPA but I see Greek life as more of a party and sisterhood thing than something having to do with my academics. If anyone wants to share how being in a more academics driven house has had a positive effect on them feel free to comment!

Academics in college are important because they determine scholarships, internships, and graduate school. What you may not realize since you're still in high school is that in college there are parties literally every night. The hard thing is to have the motivation to limit partying when you need to be studying. That's why girls like academic houses. If everyone is partying, it's harder to say you need to write a paper and easier to be talked into going out. Also, girls from different houses go out together. Decide for yourself. For me, this seems like a very immature way to decide on a college sorority. I would suggest that if you have a high GPA and care about grades, go for a house that honors that instead of one that dismisses the importance of grades. It will just make your life easier.

This might sound bad but one of my thought processes about joining a sorority with a lower GPA is that I'd have a better chance at sorority scholarships. Not sure if those are purely based on grades but I don't have much of a community involvement record unfortunately. Focused mainly on school and sports. I can see your point in having less distraction but I'm not too worried about that. Grades are everything, I plan to go to grad school after undergrad and am hoping to have most of my tuition paid for through scholarships! But if the house stays loud at night on weekdays and stuff that could definitely be a problem. I guess I just overthink things! Thanks for everyone's input :)

The houses that have good grades are the ones most likely to reward good grades with scholarships. No houses I know of give out huge amounts of money, but I know girls in several houses that have gotten money for a 4.0 and some for above a 3.5. You need to ask about scholarships in the non-academic houses. I just don't know any of those that spend money on academics. Another thing to think about is getting help from your sisters. I am not a math person and I never would have made it through calc and physics without help from my brilliant sisters. I always had someone right down the hall that could explain concepts that I didn't get.

I actually really had never thought about that, that's a benefit for sure. Thank you, I'll have to look into the scholarship thing as well. I appreciate the info can't wait for rush :)
