What surprised you most about your own recruitment?

The thing that surprised me the most was how much I enjoyed going through rush. I enjoyed the short conversations with actives from each house. I loved getting to talk about myself and what I'm interested in and finding similar interests. I loved how the conversation can start with "I live in Crosby" and end on totally different topic. Rush is what you make it. It can be a h e l l i s h week or it can be amazing.

I was surprised that the cuts hurt is much. You are left feeling so exposed, questioning why

I was surprised by all the girls who got cut from sororities, but later lied about it and said they cut them. I mean, like there was no reason to pretend you had a perfect rush when we all know you didn't.

I guess we all should realize that you had a perfect rush? Aren't you special.

I was surprised that I loved rush so much. I did not get a perfect rush. I got cut from my top house after the second round and one of the houses I went to for pref I hated. But.... I was surprised by how much I loved my third favorite house towards the end. I finally realized it was my perfect fit when I went to Skit night, not because it was entertaining-it was the conversations I had with my now sisters.
PNMs, please keep an open mind. We want you to be happy. :) You won't be happy if you just sit there depressed after Philanthropy that you got cut from your number one house. It stinks to get cut, but realize that there are other options and things happen for a reason. I thought I was perfect for a house before they cut me. You don't know what house you want until you feel it. It's cliche but so true. I thought I wanted XYZ, but I fell in love with ABC and I'm so happy to be in it. I'm obsessed about my sorority!

It always surprises me at how rude some pnm"s can be. Especially if they know they are pledging another house. It doesn't take a lot to be nice!

Kinda hard to have much of a conversation when they ask where the bathroom is and stay locked in there the whole time!

it did happen! And I am in a mid tier house-just found myself thinking she might have loads of money but obviously no manners! When i rushed there were houses I went to that I was not interested in but never was I anything but nice to them! And now being on the inside and seeing all the work that goes into rush I know I would never do that to anyone! And yes she was a triple legacy to a so called top tier house which she pledged!

I was shocked at how completely wrong this website was (okay I KNOW not to take this site as truth) but you can't help but form opinions and think "oooh they must be like this" when in actuality most of the stereotypes on this site are sooooo completely wrong.

By: wrong
by: PNM!!!!!

I actually don't see that many stereotypes on this site. What I see is rankings based on history at the school.

The rest of us are not fooled into thinking that any sorority if 400 girls can confirm into one stereotype.

You were stupid to believe that to begin with.

I can honestly say that after only a few days on campus, the ranks on this website are pretty accurate.

Ddd/xo are considered tip top
Kd/dg are highly respected and considered top
Phi mu/kappa also have respect and girls seem to like them
Aopi and pi phi don't get as much respect
Adpi has everyone talking about their new house
Theta. Poor theta. No respect.

No I actually understand what she is saying- agree the rankings are accurate but you come in thinking "wow theta gets no respect" and then you go to the theta house and think "wow really cool fun girls"- then you finally understand "low tier" here doesn't really amount to much... any chapter here would be tops anywhere else and after you go through first day you realize its not like you are condemned to a life of hanging out with social outcast and weirdos if you pledge one of the so called "lower tier houses"....

I was surprised by how theta really didn't even try to impress PNM's. It was like they know nobody wanted to come back the next round and they were going to be stuck with the girls nobody else wanted.

I went into rush not really caring where I landed. But I know that that's really turned me off after the first round.

I was also taken aback by the odd questions aopi asked me. Like If I could have hair any color I wanted, what color would it be. I was like, um, the color It am right now.

I had a great time during rush until pref day. I was orally bidded the day before at the house I wanted. My second choice cut me as well (but I later figured out it was a mistake in the computer system because a lot of girls were cut that way). I got my card back on pref day and it was my 3rd and 4th choices (which was originally #1). I was devastated. I was dirty rushed so bad by my top 2 (Kappa Delta and Tri Delt. Both equally as much). My parents drove to Oxford on pref day because I was so upset. But I pledged my #3 sorority, Delta Gamma (which was originally my #2 house before my opinion got swayed with false rumors about other houses) and it is such a blessing I did not end up with my #1 and #2 choice because they are so catty and they dirty rush!!!!!!!!!! Seriously so happy my rush ended up the way that it did because I ended up with what I needed all along. I just had to take a fall on the way there. DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED. EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON!

Orally bidded? Really? Sounds like you were mistaken. Sororities do not do this. Sounds like you are manufacturing the truth to make yourself feel better about being cut. Btw, there were no computer issues last year either.

Your post is a classic post about how girls lie and create scenarios in their heads as to why a sorority did not pick them.

Just accept the fact that kd and tri delt probably wanted you, there just wasn't enough room on their lists for everyone.

Were you there with me when I rushed? Were you sitting next to me when a girl literally told me "we can't wait for you to be here on sunday" and btw, the nationals president confirmed for ABC sorority said they had issues with some of their girls being accidentally cut. I was offering advice to PNM's now go be an active and don't worry about any of this

What sorority are you referring to as abc? No girls were "accidentally cut".

And saying they can't wait for you to be there on bid day is certainly dirty rushing, but it's hardly an oral bid. Any PNM should know that!

This is a classic post trying to tear down the houses that are "known" for dirty rushing so that girls who think they want them change their mind. I highly doubt this girl had this experience, and I'd bet money she isn't in DG. Just trying to create tensions and simultaneously make PNMs think poorly of KD, DDD, and DG. Hm, wonder who could have written it?

First, let me say that this thread is surprisingly informative. Not a lot of putting other sororities down. That's awesome!

What surprised me most about my rush experience? I am from out of state, and did not know one single person in ANY house when I got here. I never attended any spring parties in high school. And I am not a legacy in any sorority. I knew my chances were slim to get in a "top tier" but decided to come with an open mind and trust the process. I believed I would be very happy in a middle or lower tier house and was excited to meet as many people as possible in every house during the weeks before rush. It was a fun few weeks.... Then came rush. I expected the worst and could not have been more pleasantly surprised! I had an incredible week meeting amazing girls. The week actually could not have gone any better, and I ended up in a top tier house that I absolutely love! I'm not saying all of that to brag about my great rush, but to let you out of state girls know that it IS very possible to land in top house without connections. I'm living proof! Just be yourself and enjoy the process!

I had Ole Miss alums write my recs for two houses, but the rest were Alums from my home state university. My recs for sorority I joined were not from Ole Miss alums! My secret is that I made the most of the 6 weeks before rush and spent as much time with actives that I met as possible. It IS a very stressful time, but there are so many horror stories and posts about how it's impossible to get in top tier if you're not from Jackson or Memphis, I just wanted you girls to hear a positive story!

PNMs and actives CAN still talk until convocation. You still have opportunities to meet members, it just won't be as easy. Football games, bars, frat parties are all places you can meet and talk to actives. It just can't be PREPLANNED. I agree, it will be a little harder, but don't give up hope!
