The thing that surprised me the most was how much I enjoyed going through rush. I enjoyed the short conversations with actives from each house. I loved getting to talk about myself and what I'm interested in and finding similar interests. I loved how the conversation can start with "I live in Crosby" and end on totally different topic. Rush is what you make it. It can be a h e l l i s h week or it can be amazing.

I was surprised that I loved rush so much. I did not get a perfect rush. I got cut from my top house after the second round and one of the houses I went to for pref I hated. But.... I was surprised by how much I loved my third favorite house towards the end. I finally realized it was my perfect fit when I went to Skit night, not because it was entertaining-it was the conversations I had with my now sisters.
PNMs, please keep an open mind. We want you to be happy. :) You won't be happy if you just sit there depressed after Philanthropy that you got cut from your number one house. It stinks to get cut, but realize that there are other options and things happen for a reason. I thought I was perfect for a house before they cut me. You don't know what house you want until you feel it. It's cliche but so true. I thought I wanted XYZ, but I fell in love with ABC and I'm so happy to be in it. I'm obsessed about my sorority!

I was surprised by how theta really didn't even try to impress PNM's. It was like they know nobody wanted to come back the next round and they were going to be stuck with the girls nobody else wanted.
I went into rush not really caring where I landed. But I know that that's really turned me off after the first round.
I was also taken aback by the odd questions aopi asked me. Like If I could have hair any color I wanted, what color would it be. I was like, um, the color It am right now.

I had a great time during rush until pref day. I was orally bidded the day before at the house I wanted. My second choice cut me as well (but I later figured out it was a mistake in the computer system because a lot of girls were cut that way). I got my card back on pref day and it was my 3rd and 4th choices (which was originally #1). I was devastated. I was dirty rushed so bad by my top 2 (Kappa Delta and Tri Delt. Both equally as much). My parents drove to Oxford on pref day because I was so upset. But I pledged my #3 sorority, Delta Gamma (which was originally my #2 house before my opinion got swayed with false rumors about other houses) and it is such a blessing I did not end up with my #1 and #2 choice because they are so catty and they dirty rush!!!!!!!!!! Seriously so happy my rush ended up the way that it did because I ended up with what I needed all along. I just had to take a fall on the way there. DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED. EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON!

First, let me say that this thread is surprisingly informative. Not a lot of putting other sororities down. That's awesome!
What surprised me most about my rush experience? I am from out of state, and did not know one single person in ANY house when I got here. I never attended any spring parties in high school. And I am not a legacy in any sorority. I knew my chances were slim to get in a "top tier" but decided to come with an open mind and trust the process. I believed I would be very happy in a middle or lower tier house and was excited to meet as many people as possible in every house during the weeks before rush. It was a fun few weeks.... Then came rush. I expected the worst and could not have been more pleasantly surprised! I had an incredible week meeting amazing girls. The week actually could not have gone any better, and I ended up in a top tier house that I absolutely love! I'm not saying all of that to brag about my great rush, but to let you out of state girls know that it IS very possible to land in top house without connections. I'm living proof! Just be yourself and enjoy the process!
