sororities
by: sororitiesActives- since the sororities are so large now, is it hard to get to know everybody in your chapter? Like do you ever walk in the house and see someone's face and you're thinking, who is that? Or do you know everybody, you just aren't best friends with everybody? I want to be really involved in my sorority and know everyone, freshmen though seniors! I just wanted to hear first hand what y'alls experiences with this has been?

Our sororities are way too large! I'll be a junior this fall and their are still girls in my pledge class that I don't know!
My sorority is also very cliquish! It's very hard to make friends outside your friend group.
Mine was also the first pledge class that didn't get to live in Crosby our sophomore year, which hurt my pledge class. We never got the opportunity to bond. This new pledge class will be allowed to live in Crosby again your sophomore year, so you will be luckier than the last two classes.

So does that mean that the sisterhood isn't good? I've been really looking forward to having a strong sisterhood and a home to go to whenever I wanted where all my friends would be...and I know that I can still have best friends in my sorority and stuff but how could there be a good sisterhood when you don't even know you're whole pledge class?? We desperately need more sororities :(

This years pledge class will be 150++ girls. You can't possibly be best friends with them all! Most girls hang out in cliques with about 10-20 girls.
You will be in the dorms for 6 weeks before rush even starts. You will bond with the girls on your floor. On bid day, your entire floor will have received bids to different sororities. It's hard to seamlessly transition to an entirely new friend group.
I'm actually better friends with the girls from my floor than I am with girls in my sorority. I love my sorority, but with that many girls, there are a lot of forced friendships.
As another poster said, you can't pick your pledge class. I LOVED the older girls who rushed me, but couldn't stand half the girls in my pledge class.
In life, you don't get 150++ best friends. You get a small handful of true friends you can count on. You will find friends, it just won't be your entire pledge class. That only happens in the movies!

Sisterhood is not knowing every member in your sorority. Sisterhood is not knowing a single person but still being able to bond with someone. Sisterhood is not knowing everyone, but having the comfort that whenever you're at the house just a few days after bid day, you'll have someone to sit and talk with you. Sisterhood developes. You don't just get sisterhood on Bid Day. you get the opportunity to have one. It's a developing process but with Theta Encore, Pledge Retreat, etc. you'll have plenty of opportunities to get to know and bond with your pledge class.

Unfortunately, until we can cut the pledge classes down to about 50 or 60 there will never be the sisterhood at ole miss like at some of the other schools.
The top houses try to keep their pledge classes down, but the mid and bottom houses keep taking more and more quota additions. This ruins our sisterhood.
