KD, XO, and DG are least likely to extend a bid to a northerner. Normally, the only way a northener gets a bid to these houses is by being a chapter legacy or a legacy with chapter connections. DDD and phi mu have more girls from the north, but you'll still need connections or to at least stand out to them.

There will be houses that wont want you once they hear the word "Indiana/Illinois/Missouri" etc. Mainly tri delt, chi o, and kd. There are a few exceptions, but I honestly would not count on it unless you have connections to the house and fit in perfectly. Kappa, phi mu, aopi, and pi phi are all amazing with tons of out of state and Midwestern girls. Even dg has started to realize how awesome us northerners are and they've begun breaking the "strictly southern" mold.
I'll be honest, it's hard coming here from the north and only knowing a few people. Just make sure you get all of your recs and put your best face forward and you will find the right house that loves you as much as you love them.

would you think it is okay to send only rec letters. I spoke with someone and they told me support letters are a Texas thing. All the local sorority websites say only one good, well written rec letter is necessary but they will accept more than one. I feel like they are saying more than one is annoying.
I was planning on doing one rec letter, one support letter, resume and two pictures.

Support letters are not just a Texas thing, they're a southern thing!
There are some girls who will literally line up dozens of ladies to write letters of support for each chapter.
According to nationals, one rec is enough to receive a bid (as far as nationals are concerned). But this is ole miss and competitive! You are literally going up against girls who have secured many many letters of support!

I tried to have at least two recs for each house along with my resume and photo. If you can't find two, one very good letter should suffice, but you need to make sure you have at least that!! Try very hard to get two or more! I didn't have recs for two houses that I thought I fit in well at and was not asked back. It all comes down to points, and recs are worth a lot. Even if the girls in a house really like you, they can't do ask you back if you have no points.
I honestly have no idea what a letter of support is or how it differs from a recommendation letter. I was fine without having any, but if you can get some, go for it! They will only help you.

A Rec (recommendation) is a form that alumni will fill you. It answers very specific questions about a pnm, most of which is already found on a résumé. One rec form is basically all you need.
If you want to really stand out, you will have ladies write letters of support. These letters are much more personal and are typed or handwritten on the senders personal stationary. They usually are gushing and paint the pnm as a perfect candidate for their sorority. The letter of support writers will send their letters to your rec writer and the rec writer will attach them to her rec before she sends them to the chapter.
It's up to you to let the support writer know where to send the letter. (To the rec writer).
