dues
by: dues
Hello All!
I have saved about $3000 to join a sorority
I am worried it may not be enough. I think I can make a bit more before rush week but what happens if a girl falls short on her dues?

Okay... so yes sororities here are expensive and some are even about $2000 + a semester. However, this is not to say that you can't talk to your chapter treasurer or something and work out a payment plan. Most sororities are more than willing to work with you if you commit to a payment plan. I know a lot of girls who do this and they are still able to join and enjoy greek like just like everyone else who pays all at once.
#13by: Sorry but
If you don't even have the money to afford a sorority, you should probably rethink coming to Ole miss. Between the Jackson money, the Dallas money, and the Buckhead/ATL money, you're going to feel very out of place when you can't afford a dress for a date party much less a Cartier bracelet like everyone else

Y'all keep saying that dues are 2000+ a semester. Does that include meals.? I know a meal plan for 15 meals a week would be about $1400 a semester so if that is included the sorority part isn't that high. I am not at Ole Miss but my little sister is thinking about going there. At my school my sorority bill each semester is about $2200 but that also includes $1350 for meals.

Have you considered another school that has Greek life but isn't so expensive. I go to UGA and live in the house with meals for around $4000 a semester which is much cheaper than off campus or dorms and regular meal plans. Out of house and no meal plan is $1100. My sister goes to Georgia southern (I guess a 2nd tier school in state) and lives in house too and her dues are about 2/3 what mine are. And my baby sister is rushing at Ole Miss or Mississippi State in the fall (why I'm on your site and our whole family is from MS and she doesn't want to see everyone she ran into high school) and I can't believe how expensive it is! I've heard M State is cheaper is and still has active Greek life. And DO NOT TAKE OUT A LOAN FOR THIS. Just food for thought and there is nothing wrong with asking your parents and working. Me and my 3 sisters have always worked on a schedule to "wants" based on grades. Everything from prom to cars to phones to sorority to spring break. All As mean I have to pay 10%, down to a 2.5 average meant 50%. And anything below that was 100 percent outside of pure needs.
