I’m confused, why do some sororities get to take more than others?

By: New to Ole Miss
by: Rush

New sororities, like A Chi O, are new and need to build up membership quickly for financial reasons. The rest, which have been around awhile, have various retention rates from year to year. Sororities with higher retention rates have larger memberships going into recruitment. Therefore, the # of bids they offer is smaller. Sororities that lose more members may need to offer more bids to offset the losses. All of these houses are multi million dollar businesses and need to sustain the model.

So wrong. Just another non-sorority pretender spouting total crap from reading some stuff on greekrank and then vomiting it out incorrectly, sick of you people.

Bids in recruitment have absolutely nothing to do with membership numbers going into recruitment or year to year retention of members. Those are not the 'retention rates' that figure in recruitment.

Quota Additions and the whole RFM system account for the differences in the numbers. While Quota is the same for each chapter, some will take more because of the guarantee that any pnm who ranks both her pref houses will get a bid to one of them, even when it puts a chapter over Quota. So that accounts for chapters taking more than Quota, it's for the pnm's benefit, not the chapters'. And then RFM requires the chapters that are stronger recruiters/more highly desired, the ones that can count on a higher retention rate of pnm's from round to round, to release more pnm's. Those chapters have fewer pnm's at each round while others with a lower recruitment retention will have more. The result is the same Quota across the board but more pnm's ending up at some houses for pref than others and so those are the chapters that end up with more Quota Additions.

And just BTW sororities are NOT businesses. Businesses have owners that invest for ROI. Sororities do not have owners or investors, do not generate ROI, and are tax-exempt because of this; they are not-for-profit social clubs. And each chapter is its own individual entity with the only "model" being to sustain membership and housing appropriate and relevant to the individual school campus and its current operating panhellenic Total.

Shut up and sit TF down.

Actually, Ole Miss uses variable quota to determine how the bids are distributed. Variable quota means each chapter has a different quota based on the needs of the chapter. So retention actually does factor in to how many bids a sorority can give.

Variable Quota was last year.

Because they had less spots to fill meaning higher retention and less people dropping the chapter, failing out of school or transferring out/graduating early

Nope, quota additions from bid matching gives some chapters more. There are no so-called open spots in membership during recruitment no matter what a chapter's size, Total is not in effect at that time, only after bid day.
