I got cut from all the houses I really loved during rush. I have good friends in these houses that that cut me and they said they really tried to pull for me during rush, and even top members of the sororities told my friends that they wish they could've kept me but there is just a lot of politics in rush especially when it comes to connections/ legacies, etc. The house that gave me a bid- I don't fit in there. I'm considering dropping before things get more serious. If I were to re-rush next year and try for the houses that I really had a connection with do you think there is any chance I could get a bid?

A few questions & reactions:

1) Do you truly not fit in at your house, or have you not really had a get a chance to know people and find your niche? There's a big difference.

2) Are you okay with not being greek at all? Because if drop, that's a real possibility. Much more likely than getting a bid from a house you love.

3) At what point were you cut? The politics aren't going away. So either you manage to switch the tune when it comes to the politics and your bid, or you'll be a victim of the same system. And truth be told,. the "politics in rush, when it comes to connections/legacies" is ultimately just really easy language to be used regarding cuts. The reality is you will never know where you were on their list and neither do your friends. It may have been that you just missed the cutoff. Or it could mean that you were way at the bottom because your 5 friends loved you, and introduced you to their president, but you didn't stand out anywhere else (that's a generalization, not specific to your situation - but hopefully you understand what I mean).

Most sororities have a rule that if they cut you once they can never give you a bid.

No, sorry, you have a much worse shot at getting a bid from a house you love next year. It's not going to happen.

I would stick with the sorority that gave you a bid if you don't want to be a bitter GDI.

Each sorority on this campus is amazing and has incredible sisters. If you're too stuck up to see that and actually accept the challenge of being the best sister you can be to the girls who wanted you, then you don't deserve to be Greek at all.

I'm not going to sugar coat it and I will repeat it: those other girls didn't want you. That's why you didn't get the bid. The girls who wanted you and saw potential in you gave you a bid to their organization.

You're not going to do better next year, so either stick it out or be a GDI. If you do decide to stick it out, you need to reach out and make connections and be the best sister you can be. That will have a huge impact on your experience.

OF COURSE your friends are going to tell you that they wanted you. They are your friends and THEY DON'T WANT TO MAKE YOU FEEL BAD. Of course they'll blame you not getting a bid on "politics" because they don't want you to feel bad.

Truth of the matter is that legacies aren't required to be given bids. If the house doesn't like them, they cut them. And YOU HAD CONNECTIONS GOING INTO RUSH!

You had friends in houses, meaning YOU HAD CONNECTIONS. But your connections didn't work out.

The simple truth is that this happened because despite the fact that YOU THOUGHT you connected well with the houses you loved, the majority of girls in those houses WANTED OTHER GIRLS MORE THAN THEY WANTED YOU. So you were at the bottom of their list and got cut.

It's a bitter pill to swallow, so of course your friends are going to try to make you feel better by telling you that they loved you and it was due to outside factors that you were cut. That's all just flattery from your friends. The proof is in the pudding! You were cut, which is proof that those houses didn't want you.

THE HOUSE THAT WANTED YOU IS THE HOUSE THAT GAVE YOU A BID. Wrap your head around that. And then decide whether you want to be Greek or not.

I can pretty much guarantee you you are not going to do better next year if you give up this one chance to be Greek.

OK, how's this: "You were wanted. Really, really, REALLY, wanted."

But there were other girls who were "Really, really, really, REALLY, REALLY wanted" that were invited back and got bids.
