Yes, but you've got to work early, pre-pick who you're gunning for, and work it hard. Best to try to meet several guys and try to find any way to get over to your target house before formal rush. Formal rush is a newer process and the big houses already have informally half of the friends-and--neighbors from home already kinda allocated, so you need to get their attention on the 1st night. You should work 2-3 of them too. If you are a transfer, get over to fave houses now..don't wait for formal rush.

Ok that's good advice and all, but how the hell do you actually do that? How would I just meet people from those fraternities and start "working them"? I did fall rush, knew nobody before, got no bids, and haven't even seen most of the brothers I talked to again. Also, I was the only guy in my friend group to rush.

IUs Greek life is a good old boy/girl network. It is nearly impossible to get into the so-called "top tier" and even "middle" tier frat/sorority without knowing someone. It's the high school clique thing all over again. They are sure to get their HS buddies and family in but unless there is something about you that truly benefits them ($/beauty/connections) you are probably out of luck. Look into the "lower-tiered" groups and you'll find out they are not the freaks and geeks that those groups would have you believe them to be and you'll make lifelong connections with people like you.

My god, I sound pretentious. Let me rephrase that. Hypothetically speaking, if my family did have a very high net worth, would the frats not care as much about the fact that I don't know anybody?
