are letters of recommendation necessary for frats

I've noticed on a lot of chapter sites that there is an option for a letter of recommendation. Does this have any weight during the rush process?

It has almost no effect at all. Maybe if you have a close relative who is a legacy but for the most part it's about if you're a cool guy and if you know people within a certain house
