It really has no bearing since some chapters take more than 50 any way. The rule was created for one specific chapter who feels it's too good for the majority of PMNs and tries to take 35 girls each year. We should be doing quota/total like all other campuses in the country.

The reason houses don't all take that many is because there isn't enough space in the houses

The dumb reason that only Indiana uses to keep girls out of sororities.

Then move out of houses!!! Seriously! All other houses across the country have figured out that this still makes for a great sisterhood and allows more girls, who would be great assets to the greek system, to participate! IU's recruitment and "live in sisterhood" is ridiculous and made fun of by so many chapters across the country!

By artificially limiting the number of bids that go out, we can claim we are the most competitive - but we're comparing apples to oranges because ALL other schools take total quota, giving each and every PNM a much better shot at matching up with a chapter. We're not truly the most competitive, but we are the most selfish.

Get it changed! All of you rushed once.... you were the lucky ones that made it in a house. I am sure you know friends that didn't get in, that should have. Change it. Go to Panhellenic and get it changed, so your younger friends, little sisters, future daughters do not have to go through this crazy system.

Get it together IU. Do the right thing. More women should be able to go Greek here and it's only because we're stubborn and cling to "tradition" even when it's wrong

Last year every chapter except 1 took 46 or more, so this is definitely directed at that one chapter. It won't really make that big of a difference.

Sophomores definitely have it harder than freshman, but if you go into it with an open mind and not rule out chapters because of perceived "tiers" chances are you will find your home. The 2nd party is often quite a shock for sophomores because so many chapters (even those you had great convos with) will release you mainly because you are a sophomore (or grades - shoot for a 3.2 or better). It is not uncommon for sophs to have only 6-8 parties day 2, but stick with it, and focus on those chapters.

Great advice @sophomore sister! To add to what she said, if you keep all "top tier" houses you could be in for a rough road after 2nd party. Keep in mind where you feel comfortable, but more importantly where you can see yourself sitting around on the not so great days and still feel at home. Recruitment lasts for two weeks, but you're a member forever.

No more than usual. All sororities are open to taking a few, top tier will take 2-3 and others will take more.
