fall recruitment

by: sophomore transfer

I know formal recruitment happens in the spring, but I want to participate in informal rush during the fall. How does it work? Also, how many chapters do informal fall rush and give bids.

TPA, DPhiE and ASA sometimes have informal recruitment, and give out 10-15 bids informally. They have more flexibility to do it, because they are not as bound by bed rush. Other chapters may do it on the low-down (not official) and only give out a very few bids to friends, although they definitely won't publicize it. I recommend contacting those chapters if you are interested. If it doesn't work out, you can still do formal recruitment.

I recommend you do formal recruitment, especially if you are not older than a sophomore.

The only sororities that do informal recruitment are ASA and DPhiE

My best friend got into a middle tier sorority "informally". They don't open it to the public though (friends only) and they don't want anyone to know when they do it. So it's not a true informal rush, but neither is ASA's. They only bid friends and very few at that. I don't know about DPhiE

Lots of chapters give a few bids in the fall. There are always girls who transfer or drop over the summer. With bed quota, the houses who either don't have live outs or only have a few, have to fill those spots to stay on budget. Most times the bids are given out in secret to friends or transfer students who members meet in class or through mutual friends. I know of three chapters who had a very small fall class: three girls or less.
