Fall '23 rush guide

Comprehensive guide to fall rush:
IU greeklife is unlike a lot of other greeklife especially in the area due to the way that pairs work. Unlike other colleges where you might have one to 2 events at your house a week, at IU you'll probably have close to 5 events although many of those may not be at your house. Frats do stuff with other frats here.

The top houses on campus almost exclusively pair with each other and the top sororities these are:
Pi kapps, Beta, Phi sig, phi delt, sae, Sig chi, fiji, aepi

The next tier, aka "mid" holds

ZBT, sammy, theta chi, phi psi, Beta sig, DU, Sigep, CHi Phi

The bottom tier

Snu, asig, pike, delts, AKL, tep, lambda, etc.

You'll mostly pair within your tier but occasionally pair up or down. In general it is considerably more difficult to get a bid from a "top" house then a mid or bottom one. This is due to how many kids are rushing these houses ~1000 for the top houses to maybe 500 for the lower houses, and the houses expectations of the kids they're bidding. A surprising amount of kids that rush will never get a bid at IU. The reason for this is that a lot of them just go to the "top houses" and do little to stand out from the crowd.

I would find at least one house from each tier to rush that way you can see what you like and don't like. The biggest advantage you have during rush is who you know. Again houses in the top tier almost exclusively bid guys that they already know from high school or other connections. Being on "prerush" improves your chances drastically and is a big boost to help you get a bid.
