Social Media Is Toxic Asf
by: ted talk
On avg, we spend over 7 hours per day on our screens. If we had 7 extra hours of free time per day, imagine what we could actually accomplish. What happens when social media becomes so interesting that we substitute it for a real social life? Gen Z is the loneliest generation followed by millennials. In a healthy population, this shouldn't be happening. A distracted mind is an unhappy mind, and there is nothing more distracting than having a thousand notifications pop up on your screen over the course of a day. Our attention spans used to be 12 secs in the year 2000. Now it is 8.25 secs, and it will continue to decrease.
We are goldfish in a bowl. A part of that is due to people at companies who are being incentivized to figure out how to make our screens addictive. Social media is like a slot machine at a casino. We swipe and swipe constantly hoping to get the jackpot, and it never pays off.
