how do i drop a bid?

by: PNM

I didn't drop earlier and ended up getting a bid from a chapter I didn't want. Now I feel like it's rude to drop especially because I will be seeing these girls again the following year if I rush then. But there is no way I plan on staying. Also, I have no idea how to drop and I don't want to annoy my Rho Gam because she's out celebrating tn. Help! What should I do

Hey, I suggest you give it a week and try it out just to be sure. You might end up meeting some really lit girls and change your mind.

If you are sure that’s what you want. You should talk to your new member coordinator or the recruitment coordinator. I would suggest that you have an actual reason for dropping other than just that it wasn’t your top. Maybe say that you are considering moving home next semester, or you realized that the dues are too expensive, or that you are too overwhelmed with school.

"I would suggest that you have an actual reason for dropping..."

The whole chapter will call BS on this the second she steps through the door during formal recruitment 2020.

And the other chapters will remember that she went through and why they dropped her. No one gets a second chance to make a first impression.

I really do recommend sticking it out for a bit. I know plenty of girls who weren't sure about their house at first and ended up loving it. You get out of it what you put in, so try to give them a chance and make your best effort to get to know people and see what the house has to offer. There's bound to be a group of girls who you click with.

You likely won't get a better result next year. The chapters that give sophomores a chance tend to be the lower tier chapters, and the chapters that PNMs are least likely to give a chance to are the lower tier chapters.

So the question is do you want to be Greek or do you not?

If you do, stick it out at the chapter where you got your bid. Go to the events, make friends with the girls, make a REAL 110% effort.

You’re bound to that group for a year. You might as well give it a couple weeks and see if it’s as bad as you think it is. And when I say give it a couple weeks, I mean actually go to things and participate and make an effort to meet people. If it truly doesn’t work out you can drop before initiation knowing you made a sincere effort. That’ll also make people think more positively of you if you do re-rush rather than just making a snap judgement and quitting.

Welp now you have to talk to your pledge mom about dropping out so good luck with that conversation.

Drop now. It’s a huge time commitment and financial too. If you stuck with this house just to be part of this week; you’ll regret it. You’re only digging yourself further in. I’ve seen this before. It will be more awkward later.
