Is it it dumb to rush sororities as a sophomore? What about re-rushing?

No, it is not dumb. If you have decided that you missed out freshman year, go for it. If you rushed last year and dropped because you didn't get houses that you thought were "good enough" then either change your attitude or don't do it. It will be harder to get a bid as a sophomore but it is not impossible. Know going in that your results will likely be the same as they were last year unless you made a ton of friends in a house that dropped you last year, you altered your look dramatically or there was some other big change. This will be your last chance to go Greek because there is no chance at all for Juniors to get bids.

i can’t cannot emphasize this enough. if you missed out and are interested 100% rush!! it will be if nothing else, an eye opening and exciting experience. but if you rushed last year and didn’t like your options and are re rushing because you think you deserve better than attitude needs to be changed. people will read right through it.

Tons of sophomores rush for the first time and a lot of sophomores rerush too. Last year about 25% of girls who signed up for recruitment were sophomores so it is super common. However I will say that this group definitely drops in higher numbers than freshman because they often go in with the same attitude a lot of freshman do (top/top mid of bust) but you’re competing for a much more limited number of spots so the cuts are harsh and early for a lot of sophomores. Top tier houses sometimes take 0 sophomores while bottom tier houses often take 20+ so if you’re open to joining a bottom/lower mid house then you’ll certainly end up with a bid even if you’re a sophomore with a mediocre gpa. If you’re only open to top/top mid and middle as your last resort then don’t be surprised if you end up bidless again. For sophomores who haven’t rushed you may have a slight advantage because houses will sometimes cut you on the basis that they didn’t want you before so what has changed now and if it’s not something drastic then you’ll probably be cut at some point. Both groups whether you’ve been through or not should have pretty similar expectations though, if you go in with the expectation that you’re going to find a sisterhood that you love and that loves you back no matter which house you find that in then I promise you you’ll be just as happy on bid night whether youre getting a bid from a bottom, middle, or top house
